    Chris Waller\u2019s boom four-year-old daughter of The Autumn Sun,\u00a0Autumn Glow<\/strong>\u00a0($1.75F), took her career record up to a flawless seven-from-seven relishing her first Group 1 assignment and maiden 1600m trip to easily account for her rivals in a 1.44 length victory for the punters in the\u00a02025 Epsom Handicap results<\/strong>. She will now be aimed at either the $10 million\u00a0Golden Eagle at Randwick<\/strong>\u00a0or Group 1\u00a0Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington<\/strong>\u00a0both held on November 1.<\/p>\n\n

    The Epsom Handicap is one of the premier features of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, the mile classic taking place at Royal Randwick in early October.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The event has been run and won since 1865 and currently offers $1.5 million in prize money after having stakes boosted by $500,000 in 2021.<\/p>\n

    The Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) is the spring equivalent of Sydney’s iconic Doncaster Mile<\/a> held in the autumn and has been won by plenty of turf greats including Chatham (1932, 1933), Sky High (1961), Imposing (1979), Super Impose (1990, 1991), and the mighty mare Winx (2015) who was the last horse to do the Epsom Handicap – Cox Plate<\/a> double.<\/p>\n

    Good lead-up races into the Epsom Handicap field previously included the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) and the Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap<\/a> (1400m). Racing To Win (2006) was the last miler to do the George Main Stakes<\/a> – Epsom double, while in 2020 Kiwi-trained mare Probabeel backed-up off a Bill Ritchie victory to take out the Epsom Handicap becoming the first New Zealand horse to win the latter since Magnitude (1985).<\/p>\n

    In 2023 however the George Main Stakes has moved to a Saturday after the Epsom and renamed the King Charles III Stakes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Ceolwulf (2024) was the last runner to complete the Epsom Handicap – King Charles III Stakes double.<\/p>\n

    Replacing the George Main Stakes as an Epsom Handicap ballot exemption race on the mid-September The Shorts Day card in Sydney as of 2023 is the $1 million 7 Stakes<\/a> (1600m) race.<\/p>\n

    Top Ranked (2022) who ran a dead heat for first in the Epsom with Ellsberg followed the next year by Rediener (2023) are the latest horses to complete the\u00a0Bill Ritchie Handicap – Epsom Handicap double<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    The 2022 dead-heat Epsom Handicap winner Ellsberg went on to win both the Five Diamonds Prelude and the $2 million The Five Diamonds race<\/a> that preparation franking the form.<\/p>\n

    Trainer Chris Waller won the Epsom Handicap for the sixth time in 2025 with his undefeated mare Autumn Glow saluting as the odds-on favourite.<\/p>\n
