With the Belmont track out of commission, the race was shifted to Pinjarra, where Phanta thrived on the on-pace conditions, fending off Fluro Neuro and Stormchaser in a gritty finish. The win was a culmination of a carefully timed winter campaign by trainers Chris and Michael Gangemi, who had struggled to find the right setup for Phanta in previous seasons. The gelding hadn\u2019t won since his 2023 Belmont Newmarket triumph, making this result a significant comeback and reaffirming his class.     Run over 1,200 metres, the Belmont Newmarket is a Listed race taking place at Belmont Racecourse (Pinjarra Park in 2025) in Perth during August each year. With a $125,000 prize purse, it attracts its share of Western Australian sprinters and is run as a handicap event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Some of the better short-distance gallopers out of the Belmont Newmarket race may head over to Sydney or Melbourne during the spring to target the bigger sprint events over the carnival season.<\/p>\n

    The Belmont Newmarket dates back to 1945 and the first two editions were won by Lord Treat.<\/p>\n

    It is the first Perth feature race of the new racing season each year.<\/p>\n

    Two trainers co-hold the record of three Belmont Newmarket wins with Colin Webster and Allan Taylor both preparing a hat-trick of winners in the event.<\/p>\n
