Currently run over 2,400 metres, the Tattersall’s Cup is a Group 3 race taking place at Eagle Farm Racecourse during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. With a $200,000 prize purse, it attracts plenty of staying talent that may be headed towards the Group 1 Melbourne Cup<\/a> (3200m) at Flemington on the first Tuesday of November. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the 2020 edition of the Tattersall’s Cup the event ran over 2,400 metres down from 3,000 in 2019 and offered a reduced $175,000 in prize money due to COVID-19. It also took place a week earlier than it’s traditional slot with no Tattersall’s Tiara Day on the agenda in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously a quality handicap race, from 2020 onwards the Tattersall’s Cup has been contested at set weights plus penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tattersall’s Cup has served as a key early lead-up to the bigger staying races held later in the season including in 2019 when the winner Vow And Declare went on to run second in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup<\/a> (2400m) and win the iconic Melbourne Cup over the two miles that spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vow And Declare would become a two-time Tattersall’s Cup winner taking out the race a second time in 2024 as an eight-year-old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, Incentivise won the Tattersall’s Cup by a record 12 lengths before a huge spring in Melbourne winning the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes, Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and that year’s Caulfield Cup. He also finished second to Verry Elleegant in that year’s Melbourne Cup results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the Tattersall’s Cup third placed Knight’s Choice continued on to claim that year’s Melbourne Cup race in a huge upset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
