    The Wyong Gold Cup is a $250,000 Listed event run and won at Wyong Racecourse in early September each year as a lead-up to the bigger Sydney Spring Racing Carnival staying events.<\/p>\n

    Contested over 2100m, the event is a quality handicap race and the winner of the Wyong Cup Prelude is exempt from ballot in the Friday racing feature.<\/p>\n

    Wyong Gold Cup Day takes place on the Friday before Sydney’s Chelmsford Stakes Day<\/a> on the Saturday at Randwick and Melbourne’s Memsie Stakes Day card at Caulfield.<\/p>\n

    The Wyong Gold Cup has been dominated by Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller in recent history with the master horseman preparing an impressive nine winners from 2010-2025 most recently with Saltcoats (2025).<\/p>\n

    Graduates out of the Wyong Gold Cup often back-up in the Group 3 $300,000 Newcastle Gold Cup<\/a> (2300m) held a fortnight later with Carzoff (2018) and Durston (2022) the latest horses to do the double.<\/p>\n

    Plenty of nice types have run in the Wyong Gold Cup over the years including the 2011 winner The Verminator who went on to win that spring’s Group 1 The Metropolitan<\/a> (2400m) at Royal Randwick and contest the coveted Melbourne Cup at Flemington.<\/p>\n

    The 2021 Wyong Gold Cup winner Berdibek franked the form running a subsequent fourth in the $1 million The Gong<\/a> that November at Kembla Grange.<\/p>\n

    The 2022 Wyong Gold Cup form was firmly franked with the winning stayer Durston going on to win that year’s Group 1 Caulfield Cup<\/a> (2400m).<\/p>\n
