    Run over 2,000 metres, the Caulfield Classic is a Group 3 race taking place at Caulfield Racecourse as part of Caulfield Cup Day each October during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. With a $240,000 prize purse the event, registered as the Norman Robinson Stakes<\/strong>,\u00a0attracts some of the season’s most promising three-year-old stayers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    The Caulfield Classic serves as a good lead up into the Group 1 <\/span>Victoria Derby <\/span><\/a>(2500m) held at Flemington on the opening day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Polanski (2013) was the last horse to complete the Caulfield Classic – VRC Derby double<\/strong> during his three-year-old season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    In 2019 Victoria Derby champion Warning improved on a lead-up second in the Caulfield Classic to take out the tougher staying test at Flemington, while the 2020 third place-getter in the Caulfield Classic Hit The Shot ran second next-up in the Victoria Derby quinella.<\/p>\n

    In 2021 Teewaters ran third in both the Caulfield Classic (run that year as the Neds Classic) and VRC Derby results, while the filly El Patroness ran second in the then Neds Classic before her subsequent Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) win the following autumn in Sydney.<\/p>\n

    The 2023 Victoria Derby winner Riff Rocket came via a second in that year’s Caulfield Classic which was won by Sunsets who ran third in the Derby. Riff Rocket was also huge in the autumn of 2024 completing the Rosehill Guineas – ATC Derby double before sadly passing away that September due to complications post-surgery for colic.<\/p>\n
