    \"Hill<\/p>\n

    The Hill Stakes is a Group 2 race now taking place at Rosehill Racecourse.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The event was previously held at Randwick on Epsom Handicap Day before moving to early October at Rosehill Gardens to run as the feature on its own race meeting over a decreased distance of 1900m.<\/p>\n

    With a $2,000,000 prize purse as of 2023, the weight-for-age event serves as a key lead-up to the upcoming elite level races interstate in Melbourne including the <\/span>Cox Plate<\/span><\/a>, although the Hill Stakes – Cox Plate double<\/strong> hasn’t been completed since Saintly (1996).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Originally a Principal Race, this race has been held as Group 2 from 1979 onwards. The race has been held at Randwick Racecourse, Canterbury Park, as well as its current home at Rosehill Gardens.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The Hill Stakes is also now one of four lead-up races that offer a $500,000 bonus to any horse that can win it along with the $750,000 Rosehill Gold Cup<\/a> (2000m) run on Golden Eagle Day in late October. Think It Over in 2021 was the latest horse to win the Hill Stakes – Rosehill Gold Cup double<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    The 2024 Hill Stakes proved a significant form reference for the following year. Runner-up Kovalica demonstrated this, returning in the winter of 2025 to run third in Brisbane\u2019s Group 1 Doomben Cup, and then impressively winning the $1.2 million Group 2 The Q22. Not to be outdone, the third-placed Royal Patronage continued to shine, clinching the 2025 Group 1 Canterbury Stakes and securing second in the esteemed Doncaster Mile.<\/p>\n
