England vs Sri Lanka (7:30pm AEDT)
Sri Lanka to Win ($3.25)

England are in a deep, dark hole, and nothing short of a big win over Sri Lanka is required for them to keep alive their hopes of sneaking into the Cricket World Cup finals.

Losses to New Zealand, Afghanistan and South Africa have them on the ropes, and when considering they still have to take on the might of India, the resurgent Aussies and other nations firmly in the framework, things are looking very grim for the English team.

Sri Lanka are also somewhat against the wall, but they weren’t expected to challenge for the World Cup, and wins are probably a bonus for them.

I cannot take $1.36 about an English victory, and I’m going to back another upset.

Wednesday, October 25th

Australia vs Netherlands (7:30pm AEDT)
Suggested Bets Below

The Aussies can make it three wins on the trot and consolidate their position in the Top 4 by beating minnows The Netherlands on Wednesday night.

Losses to India and South Africa had Australia on the ropes immediately, but tough efforts against Sri Lanka and Pakistan since have revitalised their campaign, and they do now rate as a genuine competitive chance at the Cricket World Cup.

The Netherlands incredible upset win over South Africa unfortunately was not franked when they lost to Sri Lanka on Sunday, and it’s extremely difficult imagining them knocking off Australia.

Suggested Bets

  • David Warner Over 36.5 Runs ($1.83)
  • Mitchell Marsh Over 34.5 Runs ($1.83)

Tuesday, October 24th

South Africa vs Bangladesh (7:30pm AEDT)
Marco Jansen Over 2.5 Wickets ($3.75)

South Africa can continue their resurgence at the expense of Bangladesh on Tuesday night.

You wouldn’t have known that the Proteas suffered defeat at the hands of the Netherlands last week, when they came out and absolutely destroyed England on the weekend. The confidence and momentum that a performance like that one should deliver, should ultimately see them winning this one as well.

I’ve been rather disappointed by Bangladesh so far at the Cricket World Cup, and I expected them to have won more than one of their four matches to date. Another loss here, and they’re starting to fall into dangerous territory.

I’m expecting South Africa’s big, booming pace attack to cause Bangladesh plenty of headaches, and I think that it’s therefore the perfect opportunity for a player like Marco Jansen to assert himself.

Monday, October 23rd

Pakistan vs Afghanistan (7:30pm AEDT)
Babar Azam Over 40.5 Runs ($1.83)

An interesting subcontinent clash sees Pakistan take on Afghanistan, and I think that there is a case to be built for both nations.

Pakistan step out tonight following a pretty comfortable loss to Australia on Friday night, in which openers David Warner and Mitch Marsh put on an absolute clinic, each scoring centuries. The wickets did eventually come for Pakistan, but that was a long first-wicket stand, and they’ll need to sharpen up to ensure that Afghanistan’s top order don’t send them for too many.

The Afghan’s pulled off one of the upsets of the Cricket World Cup so far over England, but they failed to frank that effort when losing to New Zealand at their latest.

It’s a great opportunity for Pakistan to bounce back, and players like Babar Azam to find a bit of form.

Sunday, October 22nd

India vs New Zealand (7:30pm AEDT)
Suggested Bets Below

There’s a good chance that the match of the tournament so far will materialise between host nation, India, and fellow undefeated side, New Zealand on Sunday night.

Both nations have been nothing short of outstanding, and if the World Cup finished tomorrow, there is no doubt that this would be the best final.

It’s hard to know who will knock off India on their extremely well-suited home decks, however, and New Zealand really will have to be at their best.

I’m going to have a couple of bets in wicket taking markets, as India are just a little too short for me head-to-head, though I do believe that they will sneak home.

Suggested Bets

  • Trent Boult New Zealand Top Wicket Taker ($3.75)
  • Jasprit Bumrah India Top Wicket Taker ($4)

Saturday, October 21st

Netherlands vs Sri Lanka (4pm AEDT)
Netherlands to Win ($4)

Could it happen again?

The Netherlands enter this clash following the biggest ever win in their history, an incredible triumph over South Africa. To their credit, they’ve been an enormously improved side in recent years, but I doubt even they expected to take a scalp like South Africa in 2023.

Sri Lanka meanwhile, are the only nation that is yet to record a win at the Cricket World Cup, so in theory, this is the Netherlands best chance of winning again.

I think that I makes for a very, very interesting clash, and as long as the Dutch haven’t completely run out of gas after that brave performance, I think they can do it.

England vs South Africa (7:30pm AEDT)
Root England Top Runscorer ($4.33)

Both England and South Africa enter this clash following arguably their worst ever losses in the game of cricket, and both will be eager to bounce back.

A loss to New Zealand first-up is one thing, but a loss to Afghanistan is another, and England are truly battling at the 2023 Cricket World Cup. You love to see it. To be fair to their opposition, Afghanistan are not a terrible cricketing nation, particularly on subcontinent decks.

South Africa, however, have less excuses.

Their big win over Australia was immediately forgotten when they failed to go with the Netherlands, and the freefall could very well be in.

I actually cannot decide which was this one is going to go, so I am staying away from match betting.

I think that Joe Root will relish facing the South African fast bowling attack, so that’s where I’m looking.

Friday, October 20th

Australia vs Pakistan (7:30pm AEDT)
Mitch Marsh Over 30.5 Runs ($1.83)

Australia are finally off the mark, but they’ll need to improve to make it two in a row at the expense of Pakistan.

The tournament began with disappointing, hefty losses to India and South Africa, and while it was a bit of a boring encounter that still featured plenty of mistakes, they Aussies proved too strong for Sri Lanka on Monday night. The spin of Adam Zampa very much shone through, claiming handy figures of 4/47.

Pakistan meanwhile have won two of their three matches to date, but they were halted by India at their latest and will be eager to bounce back.

I am of the opinion that this is going to go right down to the wire, so I am going to stay away from match betting, and it could fall either way.

Thursday, October 19th

India vs Bangladesh (7:30pm AEDT)
Bumrah Over 2.5 Wickets ($3)

India will start clear favourites against subcontinent rivals Bangladesh on Thursday night.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, India have started their home World Cup with three-consecutive wins, and they appear to be on the short and narrow towards another deep run and likely Final appearance.

Bangladesh haven’t been awful, meanwhile, but they’ve only won one of their three matches so far, and it’s hard imagining them having the firepower to beat India at a home World Cup.

Wednesday, October 18th

New Zealand vs Afghanistan (7:30pm AEDT)
Kane Williamson Top NZ Runscorer ($3.50)

An intriguing clash between the Kiwis and Afghanistan looms on Wednesday night.

New Zealand have hit the ground running in India, winning each of their first three matches to sit tied atop standings with the host nation. They have been knocking on the door of a maiden World Cup for the last couple of cycles, and they’re putting themselves in a great position to challenge again.

Afghanistan tuned up with a couple of losses at their first two matches, but they enter this after silencing England at their latest; a result which snapped a nine-game losing streak at Cricket World Cups.

I’m keen to stick with New Zealand until they give me a reason not to, but I’m digging further than the match market to find the value.

Tuesday, October 17th

South Africa vs Netherlands (7:30pm AEDT)
de Kock South Africa Top Runscorer ($3)

Betting suggests that the most one-sided clash of the Cricket World Cup to date could materialise between South Africa ($1.04 at publish) and the Netherlands ($10 at publish).

The South Africans well and truly stamped their claims with a big win over Australia at their latest appearance, in a performance that was highlighted by Quinton de Kock’s century, and an impressive three-wicket haul from Kagiso Rabada. Their headliners are all in form, and the bodes terribly for a minnow like the Netherlands.

To be fair, the Netherlands haven’t been awful, but they are winless from two games so far, and it’s almost impossible to imagine them reversing their fortunes at the expense of South Africa.
