Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat
Same Game Multi

The Sydney Thunder will make their BBL13 debut tonight against first up winners the Brisbane Heat, and there is a case to be made for both sides.

The Thunder will field a similar team to the one that stepped out in BBL12, still featuring the likes of Chris Green, Gurinder Sandhu and the big hitting Alex Hales. They are a well-rounded cricket side who have largely played a lot together, and I have them as a genuine championship smokey this season.

I thought the Heat were outstanding in their tournament debut up in Brisbane last Thursday, but their scheduled second game against the Strikers on the weekend was abandoned without a ball bowled.

While franchises are still debuting, I’m happy to stick with the formula of backing the outsider in betting.

Same Game Multi selections:

  • Thunder to Win ($2.10)
  • Alex Hales 20+ Runs ($1.58)
  • $3.16

Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat
Suggested Bets Below

The Adelaide Strikers begin their BBL13 campaign at home tonight, but will need to hit the ground running to overcome impressive first-up winners the Brisbane Heat.

Injury to star international recruit Rashin Khan has already thrown the Strikers’ campaign into turmoil, and they are subsequently not expected to challenge for the title this season.

That being said, they still boast some world class players like Travis Head, Alex Carey and big hitters Chris Lynn and D’Arcy Short. Scoring runs therefore shouldn’t be a problem, but they’ll need to find wickets wherever possible.

I thought that the Heat were under the odds in Thursday night’s campaign opener against the Stars, but they were in control from the outset and ultimately won by 103 runs. Colin Munro was outstanding, and unlucky to be stranded on 99.

I’m only expecting the Heat to improve for that hit-out, and they can make it two in a row tonight.

Suggested Bets:

  • Heat to Win ($1.75)
  • Colin Munro 50+ Runs ($3.60)

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades
Suggested Bets Below

The ever-dangerous Sydney Sixers kick off their BBL13 campaign at the SCG on Friday night against an interesting Melbourne Renegades outfit.

The Sixers finished the BBL12 regular season second overall, but they failed to make a final after losing their prelim to the Brisbane Heat, and they will be eager to bounce back this time. They’ve lost Dan Christian and Nathan Lyon, but added the likes of Tom Curran and Joel Davies, and they’ll surely be thereabouts again.

The Renegades have added plenty of bowling power of their lineup this season, with Nathan Lyon joined by the likes of Peter Siddle and Adam Zampa, while in-form South African Quinton de Kock is a huge in at the top of their order.

This is another one for which I have little between them on paper, so I am going to back the Renegades to win as outsiders in the market.

Same Game Multi:

  • Renegades to Win ($2.20)
  • Adam Zampa 2+ Wickets ($2)
  • Josh Philippe 20+ Runs ($1.74)
  • $6.36

Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Stars
Suggested Bets Below

The Big Bash is back in a big way, and we’re set for a quality opening day clash between the Heat and the Stars in Brisbane!

The Heat incredibly fought their way into the Final last season and arguably should have won it, and they bring a similar squad into the new campaign. A strong fast bowling contingent featuring the likes of Xavier Bartlett, Michael Neser and Spencer Johnson is ably supported by the likes of Jimmy Pearson, Sam Billings and for this match, international heroes Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne.

The Stars almost always boast a strong squad, but they are still one of only two franchises that is yet to win a Big Bash title. Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Scotty Boland headline another quality outfit, but is this going to be another case of seeing it before we believe it?

I personally have nothing between these two sides on paper, so I am going to take the value on offer for a Stars upset.

Suggested Bets

  • Stars to Win ($2.15)
  • Marcus Stoinis 20+ Runs ($1.94)
  • Scott Boland 2+ Wickets ($2.40)

2023 Cricket World Cup Final Tips

Sunday November 19th
India vs Australia (7:30pm AEDT)
Suggested Bets Below

More than a month of action draws to a close when India and Australia meet in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Final on Sunday.

India have been faultless at their home World Cup. Nine wins from as many matches during the round robin stage saw them enter the Semi-Finals on top of the ladder, and they once again proved too strong for a spirited New Zealand outfit on Wednesday night.

The Indian campaign has been complemented enormously by the solo efforts produced by almost every player in their squad, but the likes of Virat Kohli, captain Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah have been particularly inspired.

They take justified confidence, momentum and form into the 2023 Cricket World Cup Final.

Australia lost their first two matches at the 2023 Cricket World Cup, including their campaign opener against India, but they have since gone undefeated, and are a fitting opponent for the undefeated host nation on Sunday.

David Warner, Mitch Marsh and Glenn Maxwell have starred with the bat, while the bowling stocks have well and truly shared the load, though Adam Zampa has been right at home on the turning subcontinent decks.

I am as passionately Australian as fans get, but there is no denying that India have been on another level, and I think that they will sneak home in a tight contest. I’ll be basing my bets around the players that have continually played well at this World Cup.

Suggested Bets

  • India to Win ($1.44)
  • Virat Kohli 50+ Runs ($2.10)
  • Shreyas Iyer Over 30.5 Runs ($1.83)
  • Mohammad Shami Over 2.5 Wickets ($2.50)
  • Glenn Maxwell Australia Top Runscorer ($9)
  • Adam Zampa Over 2.5 Wickets ($3.25)

2023 Cricket World Cup Semi-Finals Tips

Wednesday, November 15th
India vs New Zealand
Suggested Bets Below

Host nation India takes on New Zealand in our first semi-final at the Cricket World Cup and unsurprisingly, they’ll start firm favourites in betting.

India remain undefeated, they’ve been almost faultless and their record has been bolstered by some truly stunning solo tournaments from the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami.

They are playing with confidence, class and swagger, and they’ll be further buoyed once again by their parochial home crowd.

The Kiwi started the tournament in fine form, winning each of their first four, but they were ultimately lucky to scrape into the finals after losing four in a row as well.

This one looks to be an open and shut case, in my opinion.

Suggested Bets

  • India to Win ($1.30)
  • Virat Kohli Over 38.5 Runs ($1.83)
  • Mohammad Shami Over 2.5 Wickets ($2.50)

South Africa vs Australia
Suggested Bets Below

Betting suggests the tighter contest in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Semi-Finals will materialise between South Africa and Australia, and it’s not hard to see why.

Following a couple of early hiccups, both nations have been excellent, and clearly the second and third picks behind the host nation.

South Africa’s form, to be fair, has just been a little shakier than Australians, and a recent loss to India was convincing.

The likes of David Warner, Mitch Marsh and particularly, Glenn Maxwell, are well and truly firing on all cylinders, and they should prove to be an enormous thorn in the side of South Africa as well.

I’m of the opinion that a washout is what is most likely to derail Australia’s chances of making another final – they are in far better form than when they lost to South Africa on the second matchday, and with inclement weather forecast, that is an unfortunate possibility.

Regardless, I’m still leaving heavily in favour of the Aussies from a betting standpoint.

Suggested Bets

  • Australia to Win ($1.73)
  • Mitch Marsh Australia Top Runscorer ($5)
  • David Warner Over 30.5 Runs ($1.83)
  • Marco Jansen 2+ Wickets ($2)

South Africa vs Afghanistan (7:30pm AEDT)
Suggested Bets Below

South Africa are a lock and Afghanistan can potentially still mathematically sneak into the finals at the Cricket World Cup, so I am going to take a bit of value that I think the latter represents on Friday.

The Afghanis have been great in India, and they really did have Australia on the ropes on Tuesday night, only denied by arguably the best-ever One Day International innings produced by Glenn Maxwell.

South Africa have been the second-best nation at this Cricket World Cup so far and do deserve their favouritism, I’m just siding with Afghanistan as they have a lot more to play for.

Suggested Bets

  • Afghanistan to Win ($3.75)
  • Rashid Khan 2+ Wickets ($2)

Thursday, November 9th

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka (7:30pm AEDT)
Suggested Bets Below

New Zealand are desperate to get their World Cup campaign back on track when they take on Sri Lanka on Thursday night.

After a perfect start, the Blackcaps have now lost each of their last four matches to sit perilously close to the fifth-placed Pakistan, and another loss would be extremely damning to their case.

Sri Lanka has been far at the Cricket World Cup – they’ve returned some nice performances, botched others, and they won’t be playing finals.

Given the Kiwis just have to win this, I’m skewing my bets towards them on Thursday.

Suggested Bets

  • New Zealand to Win ($1.25)
  • Devon Conway New Zealand Top Runscorer ($4.33)
  • Trent Boult Over 2.5 Wickets ($3)

Wednesday, November 8th

England vs Netherlands (7:30pm AEDT)
Suggested Bets Below

The Netherlands sit above England on the ladder at the 2023 Cricket World Cup, and imagine them consolidating that by winning this. Imagine. England would surely just have to quit cricket, never to be seen again.

In all seriousness, this is one of their worst ever tournaments on record, and England, reigning Cricket World Cup champions, have won just one of their seven matches so far to sit dead last. They showed some glimpses of fight against Australia and realistically, they should be too strong for the Netherlands.

Not taking away from the Netherlands at all – they’ve well and truly exceeded expectations, recording wins over South Africa and Bangladesh, and they genuinely look to be building into a credible cricketing nation.

I’m staying away from match betting and digging back into player markets.

Suggested Bets

  • Bas de Leede 2+ Wickets ($2.10)
  • Mark Wood Over 2.5 Wickets ($3.25)

Tuesday, November 7th

Australia vs Afghanistan (7:30pm AEDT)
Suggested Bets Below

Australia won’t have things all their own way when they take on impressive performers, Afghanistan, on Tuesday night.

The Aussies will play finals, and after losing their first two matches (albeit to competition leaders India and South Africa), they’ve since been faultless. A proud win over old enemy England has them full of confidence and momentum.

Probably alongside the Netherlands, Afghanistan truly have been the surprise packets of this Cricket World Cup, and they are still a real chance of playing finals. They would need to win this game and the two remaining afterwards though, and I’m just not sure they are capable of that.

I’m once again digging into player markets in search of value.

Suggested Bets

  • Mitchell Starc 3+ Wickets ($3.25)
  • Rashid Khan 2+ Wickets ($2.20)
  • Hashmatullah Shahidi Over 23.5 Runs ($1.83)
