Crusaders v Blues

The ultimate grudge match as traditional foes meet for a place in the big dance.

The Blues shocked the world last week taking down the minor premiers, the Chiefs by 20-19 as they look to back it up this weekend in Christchurch.

On the other side is a Crusaders team that was dominant against the Reds 32-12 and never looked like losing with the forward pack stepping up in a big way.

On the team news front this weekend, both sides are at full strength but it’s the key match ups across the park which will be prime time viewing.

Up front between the two hookers Codie Taylor vs Ricky Riccitelli and then the backrow battle with Blackader and Lio-Willie taking on Papali’I and Sotutu and these match ups will be the difference.

Last time they met, it was 25-22 with the Crusaders getting the win which has been the case for the last 21 of 23 meetings including the last three.

The Crusaders have won all 30 of their Super Rugby finals games when playing as the home team and have only conceded 10.4 point per game across their last seven fixtures.

I think the Crusaders have the class here and I’ll back them to get this done and here are my best plays for the match.

Chiefs v Brumbies

The Chiefs are looking to bounce back after the heartbreak in Hamilton against the Blues.

This week they welcome the Brumbies back home after the men from Canberra knocked out the Hurricanes 35-28 in a high scoring shootout.

The ones to watch in this contest is the battle between the Wallace Sititi and Rob Valentini, two absolute powerhouses and a match up that will be key in the result.

The Chiefs have won their last four against the Brumbies, with this match up being the fifth times the two sides have met in finals footy both.

Those games have been split at two wins apiece, with home ground advantage proving pivotal on each occasion.

The Brumbies have found some form in recent times across the ditch winning their last two in New Zealand looking for a third consecutive win in the country since May 2013.

It’s hard to see the Chiefs losing two in a row at home and I think they just do enough to take down the Brumbies.

Brumbies +14.5, under 53.5 and Allan Alaalatoa would be my roughie for a try.
