Two monster games ahead in our Tuesday Daily NHL Tips, starting with the Caps looking to level things up in Carolina, right before the Oilers host the Golden Knights!
Game 4 – CAR Leads 2-1
This has been a strange series to try and get a feel for with goals and shots both proving hard to come by.
The Canes took a 2-1 lead with a 4-0 shutout on Saturday, but the Caps can take plenty of positives away after outshooting Carolina in the first period and blocking 27 shots.
More composure on the power play is necessary if Washington is to claw its way back, and that probably starts with Nic Dowd and Tom Wilson getting more pucks on net.
This feels like the type of back-and-forth series that will go the distance, so I’ll take the value on the Caps if they can start fast like they did in Game 3.
Game 4 – EDM Leads 2-1
We knew the Golden Knights wouldn’t go down without a fight, surviving 4-3 in overtime to put some of the pressure back on Edmonton.
The Oilers still have home ice, though, plus a lot of confidence after Corey Perry scored twice on Saturday before Connor McDavid tied the game up late.
McDavid, the only player to record double-digit shots so far, has easily been the best player on the ice, while the Oilers will rest easy knowing they won the bulk of the faceoffs in Game 3.
Overtime loss aside, there’s no reason to jump off Edmonton as they seemingly continue to improve every time they set foot on the ice.
