Daily NHL Tips – Friday, May 16

Can the Hurricanes wrap things up against the Caps on Friday? And could the Stars do the same in Winnipeg? Ryan Cook breaks down both Game 5s in our Friday Daily NHL Tips!

Carolina Hurricanes @ Washington Capitals (9:08am)
Tip: Under 5.5 Goals + Shayne Gostisbehere Over 1.5 Shots

Game 5 – CAR Leads 3-1

This series has been even more one-sided than most predicted.

The Hurricanes’ forecheck and pressure has been immense in all four games so far, while they’ve also dominated puck possession on the back of their elite speed and ability to push the puck up ice.

Three of the first four games fell under the goal total, so backing a low-scoring game feels like a no-brainer. Keeping with the defensive theme, it’s worth noting some of Carolina’s top shooters have been defenceman in this series, including Shayne Gostisbehere, who ranks third on the team with 10.

Dallas Stars @ Winnipeg Jets (11:38am)
Tip: Stars to Win & Under 5.5 Goals @ $3.50

Game 5 – DAL Leads 3-1

The Stars have dominated this series to force a decisive Game 5 on Friday, making the $1.92 about Dallas very enticing H2H.

Three of the four games so far have resulted in five goals or fewer, so this is another matchup where you could play the under and feel good about it – especially given Winnipeg’s defensive stinginess on home ice.

Miro Heiskanen’s overall ice time will be a key part of this game for Dallas, but given they’ve dominated just about every facet of the game so far, I still like the Stars to win in a bit of a scrappy, low-scoring game.
