Daily MLB Tips – Friday, May 23

San Diego Padres @ Toronto Blue Jays (3:07am)
Tip: Under 8.5 Runs

Stephen Kolek (SD) vs Bowden Francis (TOR)

The Blue Jays scored two touchdowns on the Padres to win yesterday’s opener 14-0, which of course, has seen the bookies inflate the total to 8.5 ahead of Game 2.

The pitching matchup lends itself to another high-scoring game, but keep in mind these two sides rank bottom five in runs scored over the last seven days.

Atlanta Braves @ Washington Nationals (8:45am)
Tip: Nats to Win @ $2.25 + Smith-Shawver Over Strikeout Total

AJ Smith-Shawver (ATL) vs Trevor Williams (WAS)

The Braves get another look at Trevor Williams after smacking him for four runs last week in a 5-2 win in Atlanta.

AJ Smith-Shawver was enormous allowing just one run across six frames that same day, lowering his ERA to 3.42 to continue a strong month of May that has seen him allow only two runs through three starts.

Since last week’s game, the Nats have been playing some great ball, sweeping the Orioles and winning Game 1 of this series on Thursday.

Smith-Shawver’s strikeout total is enticing, but with the Nats getting a second look at the same pitcher themselves, I like Dylan Crews and James Wood to do some damage.
