Black-type racing returns to Flemington this Saturday, with nine races scheduled for decision.
The highlight of the day is the Listed Lexus Andrew Ramsden, where a golden ticket to the 2025 Group 1 Melbourne Cup is up for grabs.
Also on the card is the Listed Straight Six, where King Zephyr will be looking to maintain his unbeaten record this preparation and stake his claim for a start in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.
Unfortunately, showers are forecast for the day but that won’t dampen our enthusiasm to get involved.
Read on for all my Flemington tips, including my best bets of the day.
Race 1 (11:55AM AEST): 3YO Open Handicap (1100 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 6 One Hard Lady
One Hard Lady (6) is looking to remain undefeated after impressively winning each of her three starts.
The Donna Scott-trained daughter of All Too Hard opened her account with a 4.8 length win over 1000m at Albury before winning comfortably at Gundagai despite a wide run.
However, it was her performance last start over 1000m at Albury where she arrogantly won by 3.1 lengths without ever getting out of second gear.
Regular rider Blaike McDougall follows her south and shouldn’t be far away in the run.
Race 2 (12:30PM AEST): 2YO Open Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 3 The Opportunist
The Opportunist (3) brings a different form line to the majority of this field who mostly faced each other last start.
The Team Hayes-trained Foxwedge colt was unlucky not to win two starts back at Pakenham when held up for half the straight before storming home for second.
He was excellent last start over 1200m at Warrnambool where he raced three-wide and towards the tail before letting down powerfully to win in dominant fashion by three lengths.
He’s at peak fitness now, draws beautifully and the rise to 1400m looks ideal.
Race 3 (1:05PM AEST): 3YO Fillies & Mares BM78 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 6 Zebella
Zebella (6) ran a brave race first-up when resuming over 1000m at Morphettville despite never being on the track.
The Phillip Stokes-trained grey mare improved last start when giving a good sight in front over 1200m at The Valley only to be picked off in the straight to finish a length second.
She’ll strip fitter third-up and was excellent when finishing a nose second in her only previous start over the course and distance.
Hannah Edgeley’s 3kg claim comes in handy and will see her carry less weight than last start in a similar race.
Race 4 (1:40PM AEST): 3YO Open Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 5 Daggers
Daggers (5) will appreciate the drop in class after settling a long way back in the G2 Tobin Bronze Stakes at Morphettville before running on strongly to finish four lengths sixth to subsequent G1 The Goodwood winner, Reserve Bank.
The Busuttin & Young-trained I Am Invincible colt was excellent first-up when second in the Inglis Sprint here before a solid effort in the Listed Moomba Plate.
He’s at peak fitness now and ready for 1400m, a distance he finished 1.1 lengths third over here in the Listed Exford Plate last preparation.
Ben Melham should be able to settle off the speed before allowing his mount to rip in the straight.
Race 5 (2:15PM AEST): 3YO Open Handicap (2000 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 4 Oxford Blue
Oxford Blue (4) proved too strong second-up before savaging the line two starts back over 1800m on the Caulfield Heath track to miss the win by a nose.
The son of Fiorente looked well placed stepping up to this distance at Caulfield last start but unfortunately, he endured a tough run three-wide outside the lead and was entitled to capitulate.
To his credit, he fought bravely to finish 2.4 lengths fourth to Rogan.
That looks the right form race for this, and he maps to get a much better run here for Ethan Brown.
Race 6 (2:50PM AEST): Listed Straight Six (1200 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 11 King Zephyr
King Zephyr (11) has been racing in sublime form this preparation with four wins from as many starts and is clearly my best bet at Flemington on Saturday.
The Grahame Begg-trained gelding amazingly won his first three runs back this campaign by 2.3 lengths, once at Pakenham and then twice on the Hillside track.
Begg has Stradbroke Handicap aspirations for this guy and it’s easy to see why given how dominant he was last start when after racing three-wide over 1400m here, he lent down powerfully to put the field away by two lengths.
He drops back to 1200m which shouldn’t pose a problem.
Race 7 (3:30PM AEST): Listed Andrew Ramsden (2800 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 12 Berkshire Breeze
Berkshire Breeze (12) has turned his form around in recent times and can book his spot in the Melbourne Cup with a win in this year’s edition of the Listed Andrew Ramsden.
The Ciaron Maher-trained grey gelding fought tooth and nail with Deakin two starts back in the Listed Roy Higgins over 2600m here but just couldn’t get past the talented horse and finished a neck second with third 4.1 lengths away.
Last start in the Mornington Cup, the jockey said the track was too firm and he also copped a check late when finishing 1.7 lengths fourth.
While the outside barrier isn’t ideal, Ethan Brown will have plenty of time to find a spot with cover.
Race 8 (4:10PM AEST): BM100 Handicap (1600 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 4 Regal Zeus
Regal Zeus (4) understandably weakened last start in the Listed Anniversary Vase when trying to keep up with Pride Of Jenni who was setting a fast tempo.
The son of Zoustar was in great form before that, winning back-to-back races including the Listed Golden Mile at Bendigo two starts ago.
He’s at peak fitness and gets top front running jockey Jordan Childs aboard.
The map suggests that he can dictate the speed in front.
Race 9 (4:43PM AEST): BM84 Handicap (1800 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 17 Liberami
Liberami (17) has been building throughout this preparation and can go on with it after breaking through for a win last start.
The Robbie Griffiths-trained gelding finished in the placings in three consecutive races before heading to Sandown Lakeside last start.
She settled at the back and things looked grim when she was held up in the straight, but she fearlessly charged through the pack to record a neck victory.
The rise to 1800m looks ideal given how strong she was late over a mile and she’s a previous winner at the track.
