Doomben will play host to a nine race card this Saturday and whilst plenty of eyes will be on Sydney for Day 2 of The Championships, there’s still plenty of value to be found in the Sunshine State.
We’ve gone over each event on the program and you can find and thoughts and selections right here.
Race 1: (11:53am AEST) SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS 2YO HANDICAP 1110M
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 6 Dragonne Rouge
Dragonne Rouge kicked off her career in fine style with an impressive home track victory and she looks to have plenty of upside.
Prepared at the Sunshine Coast by Shaun Dwyer, the daughter of Dracarys settled back in field and despite copping some heavy bumps, she let down strongly in the straight to take out the 1000m event.
The rise to 1110m looks ideal and with natural improvement, she can make it two from two.
Race 2: (12:28pm AEST) BRC MEMBERSHIP BM80 HANDICAP 2200M
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 11 So You Are
So You Are is building a very tidy record and looks a smart horse on the rise.
Only lightly raced, having had the five starts, he’s yet to miss a top three spot and put together back to back wins before being set a task last start at Wyong.
Taking the leap to BM78 company, the So You Think gelding was taken back to last over the 2100m at Wyong and when set alight 500m out, he fought strongly to go down in a photo finish.
He gets in nicely here with just 52kg under Ronnie Stewart and he’ll be sure to have him settle within striking distance.
Race 3: (1:03pm AEST) PRECISION GROUP BM70 HANDICAP 1615M
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 10 Jumeirah Beach
Jumeirah Beach makes the trip to Brisbane after a luckless last start outing at Rosehill.
The Newcastle trained gelding has been racing well, beaten only narrowly in the placings in two successive starts before finding himself held up for the majority of the straight at his most recent run.
He’s hard fit and whilst he does mix his form, Jason Deamer looks to have him in fine order.
The slight rise to the mile will suit and Michael Rodd will do the steering.
Race 4: (1:38pm AEST) XXXX SIDELINE BEER GARDEN 3 MAY QTIS 3YO HANDICAP 1615M
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 1 Apuntar
Apuntar strips fitter for the two runs back and looks ready to peak as he steps up to the mile.
He just looked in need of the run when resuming in the QTIS 3YO Jewel and last start, up to 1350m here, he finished off strongly into second despite wanting race touch keen in the early part.
The Kevin Kemp trained gelding has shown good ability, performing well in some strong races and the blinkers come off here which should see relax nicely.
He gets in well with Cody Collis’ 2kg claim and any moisture in the track will only enhance his chances.
Race 5: (2:13pm AEST) LADBROKES CALCUTTA & LUNCHEON 13 JUNE CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1615M
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 7 Smart Legend
Smart Legend proved too good over this course and distance at his first appearance for the new stable and I think he can make it back to back wins.
There was plenty of merit in the victory as the gelding did race very keen throughout the early part but still found enough late to hold off the challengers.
Formally trained at Randwick, the son of So You Think has turned out some nice performances against solid company and he looks well placed in this class of race.
With three weeks since that last run, the mile again looks suitable and he drops 2.5kgs.
Jag Guthmann-Chester stays aboard and from barrier four, he’s sure to afford him every chance.
Race 6: (2:48pm AEST) STRADBROKE SEASON BOOK NOW CLASS 3 PLATE 1110M
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 16 Sicilian
Sicilian was game in defeat when resuming for the new stable and she will have taken plenty of benefit from the run.
Eased out of an early speed battle over the 1000m, she sat wide without cover and just had one get the better of her late.
Formally prepared by the Waterhouse / Bott team, the daughter of I Am Invincible boasts solid formlines and she has been stakes placed on two occasions.
She has won second up previously, the slight rise to 1110m looks ideal and she gets a senior rider back aboard with Angela Jones to do the steering.
Race 7: (3:27pm AEST) XXXX QTIS 3YO QUALITY FILLIES HANDICAP 1350M
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 8 Autumngirl
Autumngirl returns to the races and the filly looks ready to go off a very pleasing trial performance.
A daughter of The Autumn Sun, she’s just had the three race starts and has already shown plenty of promise.
Sent to the paddock after her debut outing where she finished the runner up here, she resumed with a dominant win over 1110m at Ipswich last time in.
Found to be suffering from heat stress and having pulled up with a poor recovery at her subsequent outing, she was again given time.
She looks nicely placed here kicking off over the1350m and I think she’ll be right in this.
Race 8: (4:07pm AEST) SKY RACING NMW HANDICAP 1350M
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 5 Thankyou Henry
Thankyou Henry has been racing well and steps out to 1350m for the first time.
He looked a touch unlucky when stepping out over this course and distance two runs back, held up in early part of the straight he charged late into second, taking good ground of the eventual winner.
He hit the line well again last time but just found one better on the day.
A very handy galloper, the son of Kobayashi is putting tother a very tidy record and his only unplaced run was fresh up when he had plenty against him.
He’s fit, he gets in nicely here with the 1.5kg claim from Emily Lang and draws to receive all the favours.
Race 9: (4:43pm AEST) LADBROKES MATES MODE POTS QUALITY HANDICAP 1350M
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 3 Miss Joelene
Miss Joelene resumes.
A Group One placegetter, the Kelly Schweida trained mare isn’t short of class and she boasts a terrific first up record.
She didn’t miss a top three spot last time in and recorded a deserved win in the $500k Wave before rounding out her campaign with a solid effort to finish a close third in the Magic Millions Subzero.
The 1350m first up looks ideal and she loves it here at Doomben.
Cejay Graham will do the steering and from the low draw she’s set to receive a cosy run throughout.
