Daily NHL Tips – Thursday, May 1

Ryan Cook is back with a Thursday set of NHL tips and best bets. See below for his thoughts on the Caps facing a series-clinching scenario against the Habs, and a crucial Gme 5 between the Blues and Jets.

Montreal Canadiens @ Washington Capitals (9:08am)
Tip: Caps to Win & Under 6.5 Goals @ $2.55

Game 5 – WAS Leads 3-1

The Habs have proven a scrappy opponent through the first four games, but this is another big challenge back on the road with the Caps looking to land the final blow.

Montreal has spent a good chunk of time defending in this series, registering only 18 shots on goal in Monday’s blowout 5-2 loss.

The Caps should feel pretty good knowing they won that game in dominant fashion, especially after going 0-for-5 on the power play. If they clean up their game and limit the penalties on Thursday, they should be moving on.

St Louis Blues @ Winnipeg Jets (11:38am)
Tip: Blues to Win @ $2.40

Game 5 – Series Tied 2-2

We’re back to Winnipeg with things all square.

The Blues will need to win once on the road to be any chance at advancing to the second round, and there’s every reason to believe with ten of their skatesrs registering at least two points in this series.

There are big question marks over Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck, who is suddenly showing some signs of fatigue after starting 62 games during the regular season.

Winning on the road in Winnipeg is tough, but I like the way the Blues are creating opportunities in front of the net. They played well in both Games 1 and 2 to start the series, and just need to knuckle down in the third period to be a serious chance here as underdogs.
