2025 NRL Round 6 Tips & Preview

2025 NRL Round 6 Tips & Preview

The Bulldogs remain the only undefeated team in the competition and will hold top spot for at least another week courtesy of the bye.

The Eels remain last despite grabbing their first win of the year but the biggest news remains the Panthers with the 4-time defending premiers down in 15th spot following a fourth consecutive loss.

Dolphins v Penrith Panthers

Any thought of the Panthers losing three games in a row was considered ridiculous but they have now lost four on the trot and face a Dolphins side coming off their first win of the season. Despite the return of Dyland Edwards, they are not giving away a double-digit start as the bookies and the betting public have clearly lost belief in them. The Dolphins have lost their last 5 following a win but only one of those defeats has been by more than 8 points. The Panthers have won 70% of games as an away favourite in the last year and have covered the line in 67% of games following a loss in that period. Tabuai-Fidow has 3 tries in his 2 appearances as a Dolphin against the Panthers with big man Moses Leota crossing for a try in his last two in this matchup. Paul Alamoti has 7 tries in his last 7 dating back to last year’s finals series despite failing to cross for a try in the last two games.

  • Best: Dolphins +7.5 ($1.90)
  • Next: Penrith by 1-6 ($5.25)
  • Tryscorer: Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow ($11 First, $2.20 Anytime)
  • SGM: Tabuai-Fidow Try/Alamotic Try/Dolphins +12.5 ($5.13)
St George Illawarra Dragons v Gold Coast Titans

Losing as favourites was the theme for both of these teams last week which increases the importance in this one. The Titans will be without Tino Fa’asuamaleaui (suspended) with David Fifita again named to come off the bench. They have similar line records in this spot with the Dragons having covered the line in 9 of their last 13 following a loss with the Titans a comparable 9-5. The Under has held on in 75% of Titans away games in the last year and is also 3-0 in their last 3 meetings against the Dragons with an average of 39.3 total match points in those games. Jayden Campbell has 2 tries in his last 3 against the Dragons with 3 tries in his last 5 games played leading into this one. Almost two thirds (64%) of the Dragons tries this season have been down the left third of the field with Tuipulotu leading the way with 5 tries and Kly Flanagan (2) also chiming in..

Recommended Bets

  • Best: St George Illawarra WIN ($1.60)
  • Next: St George Illawarra 1-12 ($2.95)
  • Tryscorer: Christian Tuipulotu ($7.50 First, $1.65 Anytime)
  • SGM: Tuipulotu Try/Jayden Campbell Try/Flanagan Try ($18.62)
Brisbane Broncos v Sydney Roosters

The Broncos flexed their muscles in a dominant 46-24 win over the Tigers and have scored more points (164) than any other team through the opening five rounds. The Roosters have lost three straight since upsetting the Panthers with Chad Townsend paying the price for their mediocre attack. They have scored a total of 32 points across those three games with the Under going 3-0 during that stretch. The Broncos have covered the line in only 3 of their last 11 following a win and despite the perception that Suncorp Stadium is a fortress, they have a mere 30% success rate covering the line as a home favourite in the last year. The Over has hit in 67% of those games and in 9 of the Roosters last 14 away games. The Broncos left-side attack has been lethal with Arthurs (7) and Shibasaki (4) combining for 11 tries in 2025. Both were on the scoresheet in the 50-14 win over the Roosters in Round in a game where Cobbo grabbed a hat-trick.

Recommended Bets

  • Best: Over 50.5 points ($1.83)
  • Next: 61 Points or More ($3.70)
  • Tryscorer: Shibasaki ($12.50 First, $2.30 Anytime)
  • SGM: Arthurs Try/Cobbo Try/Shibasaki Try ($4.95)
Cronulla Sharks v Manly Sea Eagles

We’re off to Optus Stadium in Perth for the first game of a double header. The Sharks suffered a gut-wrenching loss to the Raiders and will almost be disappointed that this one is not taking place on the northern beaches where they have won the last three clashes. They have posted a 4-6 record in their last 10 as the betting favourite against the Sea Eagles with a 30% success rate at the line in those games. The ‘away’ team has won 9 of the last 11 clashes in this series with many of those being very high scoring contests. There have been 50+ total points in 5 of the last 7 meetings and that trend could continue as the over has hit in each of the Sea Eagles last 7 away games. The duo of Mulitalo and Koula have 3 tries a piece across the last two meetings. Nikora crossed for a double the last time these two sides met and also had two tries in the losing effort against the Raiders last week.

Recommended Bets

  • Best: Over 48.5 points ($1.90)
  • Next: Half Time/Full Time – Cronulla/Manly ($10.00)
  • Tryscorer: Briton Nikora ($12.50 First, $2.40 Anytime)
  • SGM: Mulitalo Try/Koula Try/Nikora Try ($12.04)
South Sydney Rabbitohs v North Queensland Cowboys

Latrell Micthell made his return in style by setting up the match winning try against the Rabbitohs biggest rivals. They will need him to be at his best here as Cody Walker and Mikaele Ravalawa are the latest names to be added to the injury list. The Rabbitohs have conceded 20+ points only once this season and defence is the primary reason for the Under being 5-0 in their matches. The Under is also 3-0 in their last 3 battles with the Cowboys with the Queensland side holding favouritism for this one. The Cowboys are 2-2 as a road favourite in the last year and have covered the line in only 25% of those games. The return of Alex Johnston could be significant as he has 10 career tries against the Cowboys and 5 tries in his last 4 appearances for the Rabbitohs. Cowboys half Tom Dearden has scored at least once in each of his last three games against Souths with 4 tries in total.

Recommended Bets

  • Best: Under 49.5 points ($1.90)
  • Next: Tribet 1-6 – Either Team by less than 6.5 points ($2.80)
  • Tryscorer: Tom Dearden ($15 First, $2.80 Anytime)
  • SGM: Alex Johnston Try/Dearden Try/Alt Handicap South Sydney +10.5 ($6.44)
Parramatta Eels v Canberra Raiders

It took five attempts for rookie coach Jason Ryles to get his first win but the Eels will be without the hero from last week (Zac Lomax) after he suffered a foot fracture. This isn’t much of a home game for the Eels as they have lost their last three games at TIO Stadium in Darwin. They have won only 1 of their last 5 following a win and have conceded an alarming 36.8ppg across those five fixtures. The Under is 4-0 in the Eels last 4 and their average of 2.2 tries per game this season is the lowest of any team by a clear margin. The Eels are yet to score the first try this season and that is music to the ears of the Raiders as they have scored the opening try in 4 of 5 games played this season. Nicholson has 3 tries in 4 games this season including first try honours on two occasions. It could be a field day for the visitors as Kris, Timoko and Young have all scored at least once in each of the last two matches in this matchup.

Recommended Bets

  • Best: Canberra Over 4.5 tries ($1.78)
  • Next: Only Canberra Raiders to score 20+ points ($2.45)
  • Tryscorer: Matty Nicholson ($19 First, $3.50 Anytime)
  • SGM: Canberra WIN/Seb Kris Try/Hudson Young Try ($7.73)
Melbourn Storm v New Zealand Warriors

The Storm bounced back from an unexpected loss to the Dragons with a thumping 48-24 win over the Sea Eagles. They improved to 16-0 in their last 16 following a loss and it is somewhat of a magic number as they have also won 16 in a row against the Warriors. Their win streak against the Warriors at home stands at 10 games with the Over hitting in the last 4 games between them at AAMI Park. The Warriors have won and covered the line in their last 3 matches leading into this one but the most interesting statistic is their 6-1 line record in their last 7 as a road outsider. Jahrome Hughes has 7 career tries including two doubles against the Warriors while Xavier Coates has added 6 tries in the last 5 clashes in this series.

Recommended Bets

  • Best: New Zealand +16.5 ($1.90)
  • Next: Melbourne 1-12 ($3.50)
  • Tryscorer: Xavier Coates ($7 First, $1.53 Anytime)
  • SGM: Coates Try/Hughes Try/Katoa Try ($8.45)
Newcastle Knights v Wests Tigers

The Knights were completely shut out by the Bulldogs last week and it was the first time in more than three years that they were held to nil. History suggests that the Tigers will provide them with the ideal opportunity to bounce back. After all, the Knights have won 7 in a row against the Tigers including the last three at McDonald Jones Stadium by a margin of 16 points or more. An 8-3 line record in games after a loss provides further support for the home team but an average of only 10.5ppg so far this season has seen the Tigers gain support. The Under is 4-0 in the Knights 4 games played this season and has also held on in 78% of their home games played in the last 12 months. The Knights have scored the first try only once this season which indicates that they will be behind at some point. They overcame a deficit against the Tigers to win 10-8 in Round 1 this season and a similar score is not beyond the realm of possibility here. Fletcher Sharpe has scored in both of his prior appearances against the Tigers with five tries in total. Turuva has been the most consistent for the visitors with 5 tries in 5 games for his new club.

Recommended Bets

  • Best: Wests Tigers +3.5 ($1.90)
  • Next: 31-40 Total Match Points ($3.70)
  • Tryscorer: Sunia Turuva ($9.00 First, $1.98 Anytime)
  • SGM: Turuva Try/Sharpe Try/Alt Total Under 53.5 points ($10.14)
