2025 Brisbane Mile Day Tips & Preview

2025 Brisbane Mile Day Tips & Preview

The Brisabne Winter Carnival is almost upon us and the excitement builds as Eagle Farm plays hosts to a bumper nine race card this Saturday, which will include the running of four black-type features.

The two year olds will step out in the Listed Calaway Gal earlier of the program, followed by the three year olds in the Mick Dittman Plate and then the fillies in the Listed Princess Stakes, as several contenders continue their path to the Group One Queensland Oaks.

Race eight will see the feature event of the day to be run and won with a seventeen starters to vie for honours in the Listed Brisbane Mile.

With showers forecast, we’ll be racing on a rain affected track and we’ve done the form accordingly.

Race 1: (11:38pm AEST) CANADIAN CLUB CLASS 3 PLATE 1200M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 13 Siclian

J: Emily Lang (56.5kg) T: Tony Gollan

Sicilian was game in defeat when resuming for the new stable and she will have taken plenty of benefit from the run.

Eased out of an early speed battle over the 1000m she, sat wide without cover and just had one get the better of her late.

Formally prepared by the Waterhouse / Bott team, the daughter of I Am Invincible boasts solid formlines and she has been stakes placed on two occasions.

She has won second up previously and the rise to 1200m looks ideal.

The draw could be tricky but if Emily Lang can get across without burning too much petrol early, she’ll be strong late.

Race 2: (12:13pm AEST) BAKER REFRIGERATION BM80 HANDICAP 2400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win Market Mover

No. 6 Dillian

J: Martin Harley (56kg) T: Peter & Will Hulbert

Dillian kicked off the new stable in fine style, scoring comfortably over 2050m at Doomben.

Previously prepared by Ciaron Maher, the Irish bred gelding had been contesting much stronger races in Melbourne and relished the drop back in class last time.

He does step up in grade but strips fitter and the rise to 2400m will suit.

A noted wet tracker, he’ll get the right conditions and draws to enjoy a cosy throughout under Martin Harley.

Race 3: (12:48pm AEST) INSPIRED BUILT BM78 HANDICAP 1400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 14 Centrestone

J: Kerrin McEvoy (57kg) T: Chris Waller

This is a very open race and I struggled to settle on one but I’m going to go with Centrestone.

The Chris Waller trained mare has been racing well and she’s hard fit.

Her most recent outing was over this course and distance where she was held up in the early part of the straight but finished off fairly into third.

She hasn’t been finding the line as strongly the team would like so they’ve elected to take the winkers off.

Kerrin McEvoy takes over, she draws to get the right run and if she handles the conditions, she’s sure to be there at the finish.

Race 4: (1:23pm AEST) FRESH SELECTIONS BM85 HANDICAP 1000M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 6 Black On Beauty

J: Angela Jones (58kg) T: Tony Gollan

Black On Beauty returns to the races.

The Zoustar mare boasts a terrific first up record and looks ready to go off a very encouraging Doomben trial.

In her twenty career starts she’s yet to step out over 1000m on raceday but with plenty of natural speed, she looks more than capable at the shorter trip.

She handles all conditions and with the advantage of the inside draw, I think she may just prove too slick for them.

Race 5: (1:58pm AEST) AQUIS STALLIONS CALAWAY GAL 2YO FILLES LISTED 1200M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 13 Listen Sweetheart

J: Kerrin McEvoy (56.5kg) T: John Sargent

Listen Sweetheart makes the journey from Sydney to kick off her racing career.

Prepared at Randwick by John Sargent, the daughter of Pierro has had the benefit of three public trials and she has shown good improvement on each occasion.

She was sporting the blinkers at her latest and they did the trick as she shot out of the gates, travelled well in the lead and kicked away to win the heat comfortably.

She gets the services of Kerrin McEvoy and I think she’s set for a big debut.

Race 6: (2:33pm AEST) LADBROKES MICK DITTMAN PLATE 3YO SW LISTED 1000M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 2 Hella Fast

J: Michael Rodd (57kg) T: Kelly Schweida

Hella Fast resumes.

The son of Hellbent showed plenty of talent in his first preparation and I think he’ll continue to improve.

A winner at his first two outings, he was then given a nine week let up and returned with a solid effort to finish second in very heavy conditions in the Listed Gold Edition Plate.

He turned out another fine performance to finish third in the Vo Rogue but just looked to have had enough when he failed to finish off in the Magic Millions Guineas.

The 1000m kick off looks ideal for the Kelly Schweida trained gelding and he draws to get the gun run under Ryan Maloney.

Best of the day

Race 7: (3:08pm AEST) THE CAGE YOUTH FOUNDATION PRINCESS STAKES 3YO FILLIES LISTED 1600M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Harlem Queenn

J: Taylor Marshall (56.5kg) T: Nathan Doyle

Harlem Queen has been placed in both of her runs this preparation and she looks beautifully placed here under the set weights conditions.

From nine starts, the Nathan Doyle trained filly is yet to finish further back than fourth and she stamped herself as a serious racehorse last campaign putting together back to back wins before a strong effort to finish second in the Flight Stakes behind star filly Lady Shenandoah.

She then went onto to contest both the Spring Champion Stakes and VRC Oaks, where she finished fourth on each occasion.

She was powering home from the tail last start in the Emancipation and the low draw here can see her settle within striking distance under Taylor Marshall.

Race 8: (3:47pm AESTpm) JONES & CO IGA BRISBANE MILE LISTED 1600M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 2 Port Lockroy

J: Andrew Adkins (59.5kg) T: Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald

Port Lockroy hasn’t been far away in two runs back this campaign, both of which have been at Group One level, and he and looks ready to peak with the drop back in grade.

Resuming in the George Ryder, the Better Than Ready gelding settled in the second half of the and field and finished off nicely behind the likes of Gringotts and Fangirl.

He then stepped out in the Doncaster where he was always wide but still fought gamely to finish just 1.3 lengths off Stefi Magnetica.

Winner of the Railway Stakes late last year, he’s proven himself a class horse and he’s sure to find this easier than what he’s been contesting of late.

Ryan Maloney will do the steering for Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald and if he can find cover early off the wide gate, he’ll be strong late.

Race 9: (4:23pm AEST) HEART OF THE COMMUNITY BM90 HANDICAP 1300M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 4 Rockribbed

J: Emily Lang (60kg) T: Tony Gollan

Rockribbed was solid when resuming over 1000m here last month and probably just found the trip a touch too short.

He then contested the King of The Mountain at Toowoomba but struggled to finish off in the atrocious conditions.

He presents here at peak fitness, he’s been placed in all three starts here at his home track and the 1300m looks ideal.

Emily Lang knows him well, she’ll take 1.5kgs off and with his good early speed, he should be able to overcome the tricky draw.
