Eagle Farm Preview – Saturday, March 22

Eagle Farm Preview – Saturday, March 22

One of the biggest days on the Australian racing calendar is almost upon us and whilst all eyes will be on Rosehill Gardens for their Golden Slipper raceday, here in the Sunshine State, we’ve got an exciting nine race card to get through at Eagle Farm.

I’m liking a couple of the Sydney visitors who have steered away from the stakes races and with some very open events on the program, there’s plenty of value to be found.

The track is currently rated a soft 5 and there are further showers on the way but as one of the best draining tracks in the land, it’s expected to stay in that soft range.

I’ve gone through each and every race on the card and you can find my detailed Eagle Farm racing selections for Brisbane on Saturday below.

Race 1: (12:13PM AEST) EVIE NETWORKS BM7O HANDICAP 1830M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 5 Divakara

J: Ryan Maloney (59.5kg) T: Stuart Kendrick

Divakara comes off a decisive victory over 1800m at the Sunshine Coast and he looks well placed to make it reproduce that performance.

Settling back, the gelding was set alight 600m from home and proved far too good as he shot away over the final part to score by 3.5 lengths.

He was only narrowly beaten at his prior outing when stepping out over 1400m off a nine week let up and he presents here at peak fitness.

He’s two from two over this trip and is proven in soft conditions.

With regular rider Kyle Wilson-Taylor currently sidelined, Ryan Maloney will take the mount for Stuart Kendrick.

Race 2: (12:48pm AEST) MERCEDES-BENZ BRISBANE BM90 HANDICAP 2200M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Diablo Bolt

J: Jag Guthmann-Chester (58.5kg) T: Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald

Diablo Bolt is racing is red hot form having won three of his four starts this time in.

Prepared by Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald, the son of Hellbent has continued to rise through the grades with relative ease and returned in fine order, scoring back to back wins before contesting the Lord Mayor’s Vase, where he settled back at the tail and powered home into second.

He was far too good last start when stepping out to 2200m for just the second time and he looks hard to beat again.

Jag Guthmann-Chester stays in the saddle and from barrier two he’s set to enjoy a cosy run in transit.

Race 3: (1:23pm AEST) GOTRANSIT MEDIA GROUP CLASS 1 PLATE 1400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 16 Leica Glove

J: Michael Rodd (57kg) T: Paul Shailer

Leica Glove comes off a decisive Coffs Harbour victory and she looks to have plenty of upside.

Sporting the famous Winx colours, the daughter of Super Seth started at Winx-line odds for 1200m maiden and she lived up to expectations as she let down strongly over the final part to score by two lengths.

Sent to the paddock after a plain debut effort, she returned in top order and whilst the form out of that latest run doesn’t look to hold much depth, she did it effortlessly and will have taken plenty of benefit from it.

Michael Rodd made the trip south to partner her, he stays aboard and I think she’ll relish the rise to 1400m.

Race 4: (1:58pm AEST) VECCHIO PROPERTY GROUP OPEN HANDICAP 1600M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Kronenbourg

J: Emily Lang (60kg) T: Tony Gollan

Kronenbourg has been racing well and there’s a lot to like about him here.

A winner of two of his past three runs, the Tony Gollan trained gelding was a touch disappointing at Doomben last month but bounced back with a strong win over the mile there.

He does race particularly well here at Eagle Farm and the 1600m journey is certainly his sweet spot.

Emily Lang partnered him to victory last start, she stays in the saddle and her 2kg claim sees him well at the weights.

Race 5: (2:33pm AEST) CHEMIST WAREHOUSE CLASS 6 PLATE 1000M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 4 Blue Spinel

J: Angela Jones (56.5kg) T: Tony Gollan

Blue Spinel has been placed at her past two starts and I think she can get the job done here.

The daughter of Hellbent failed to finish off at her first two runs back from a break but they were both over 1200m.

Dropping back to the 1000m, she finished off strongly despite a wide run and last time, she got back off the wide gate and charged through late to get within a length on the line.

She’s yet to miss a top three spot over this course and distance and if she can settle within striking distance, I think she’ll too good for them.

Race 6: (3:08pm AEST) PITCHER PARTNERS QTIS 3YO HANDICAP 1000M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 7 Concession

J: Luke P Dempsey (56kg) T: Barry Lockwood

Concession was just collared late last time by the handy Ser Joh and given that he was fresh off a seven week let up, he’ll be fitter for the run.

Only lightly raced, having had the four starts, the Pride of Dubai gelding won well over the 1000m here when resuming in January and he looks a progressive type.

He does have the wide draw to overcome but with even luck, I think he’ll be right in this.

Race 7: (3:47pm AEST) ACE F&M BM78 HANDICAP 1200M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 6 Anavinci

J: Angela Jones (57.5kg) T: Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald

Anavinci was solid to the line last start over the 1100m at Rosehill and she looks to find a winnable race here.

The daughter of I Am Invincible showed plenty of talent in her first campaign, saluting on debut before taking out the Listed Gosford Guineas.

She returned after a lengthy break on the sidelines and whilst she’s yet to fire, she hasn’t been far away in stronger company and she’s sure to make her presence felt here.

Race 8: (4:27pm AEST) ETHOS ORTHODONTICS C,G&E BM 78 HANDICAP 1200M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win Market Mover

No. 8 Ouroboros

J: Boris Thornton (59.5kg) T: Matthew Hoysted

Ouroboros kicked off for the new stable in fine style, scoring a dominant victory over 1000m here.

The son of Harry Angel hadn’t raced for a full year and making his return as a gelding, he took up the running and never looked in doubt as he extended strongly in the straight to win easily.

Formally prepared by the Price / Kent team, the four year old has only missed a top three spot on one occasion and he was beaten a nose when finishing the runner up in the Group 3 Vain Stakes behind Cylinder.

He’s a class galloper, he will have taken plenty of improvement from that first up run and the rise to 1200m will suit.

Race 10: (5:10pm AEST) VALE ASH PEDLER BM85 HANNDICAP 1400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 6 French Endeavour

J: Ron Stewart (57.5kg) T: Matthew Smith

French Endeavour makes the trip to Brisbane for the first time and she’s sure to appreciate the drop back in grade after contesting the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes at her most recent outing.

It was a credible effort from the Matthew Smith trained mare as she raced wide throughout and stuck on gamely to finish less than three lengths off Amelia’s Jewel.

She’s only won the three races but has competed at a high level for much of her career and she looks ideally placed here at her third run back.
