No. 3 Grammy’s Sunshine

J: Beau Mertens (57kg) T: Tony & Calvin McEvoy

GRAMMY’S SUNSHINE (3) has gone up the rightful favourite in this contest on return for the McEvoy team.

The filly by Irish Group 1 winner Earthlight finished midfield on debut in the 2YO Inglis race at Flemington last November, beaten 4.3 lengths by Within The Law over 1000m.

She’s trialed up an absolute treat over the last few weeks, last seen winning by nearly half a length on the Heath track at Caulfield.

Barrier 7 makes this a slightly awkward assignment, but she’s still a big watch on return.

Geelong: Race 4 (3:45pm)

No. 8 Sparkle Link

J: Beau Mertens (56kg) T: Greg Eurell

SPARKLE LINK (8) is a talented mare who continues to race well without winning for Greg Eurell.

The Kiwi daughter to Reliable Man has been up since mid-January, finishing top five in all four starts with some decent improvement on show at Cranbourne a couple of weeks ago, where she was runner-up over shorter.

This is her first look at the trip, but after winning her maiden over 2200m last year, she just needs a touch of luck early on from the wide gate to be a serious factor.

Geelong: Race 5 (4:20pm)

No. 3 Miss Winslet

J: Rose Hammond (58.5kg) T: L & T Corstens & W Larkin

MISS WINSLET (3) is competing with the blinkers off for the first time following a brief four-week let-up.

She held her own in some tougher mid-week races last month, notably finishing within a length of Written Blight at Sandown over a touch shorter.

Her latest effort saw her knuckle down to finish midfield when stretching out to 1400m, which bodes well for this slight step back in trip with a trial between starts.

In well with the claim and drawn to get a gun run from barrier 3, this rates a winnable assignment for the daughter of Shamus Award.

Geelong: Race 7 (5:30pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Each Way

No. 4 Viasain

J: Jordan Childs (60kg) T: John McArdle

VIASAIN (4) looks ready for the rise out past 1300m with a few tidy efforts to his name this time in work.

The three-year-old son of Zousain won like a good thing fresh at Pakenham over 1000m, before going on to run fourth at The Valley where he was only beaten two lengths.

The tempo and the pattern of the race was against him last start out to 1200m back at Pakenham, but keep in mind he was also three weeks between runs that day.

With improvement still to come in a slightly easier contest, he’s capable of working into the money here at good odds.
