JONNY BE SWIFT (1) just needs to handle the top weight to be a factor here deep into his prep.
The son of So You Think hasn’t won in over a year, but he has been in the mix recently in similar contests at Canberra and Goulburn.
The heavy track will be the key to his chances with the tongue tie coming off now.
Newcastle: Race 4 (2:00pm)

No. 4 Water Lad
WATER LAD (4) looks ready to get back to winning ways for Brett Cavanough.
The four-year-old son of Headwater was denied his hat-trick at Tamworth a few weeks ago when racing off a four-week break, beaten just over two lengths after a wide run in transit saw him weaken over the final stages.
He’s drawn to get a lovely ride here under apprentice Braith Nock and is likely a natural improver on less of a turnaround this time.

No. 4 Boomtown Chat
BOOMTOWN CHAT (4) might be the best chance here out of a bad bunch.
John Thompson’s three-year-old exploded with a run to shed the maiden tag on resumption at Hawkesbury last month, before going on to finish just outside the money in two tougher races up to Class 1 level.
The bog track might test him from the wide gate, but he’s got a fitness edge over his rivals with the step back to 1200m also looking like a plus.
Newcastle: Race 7 (3:50pm)

No. 4 Golden Hour
GOLDEN HONOUR (4) looks ready to peak third-up for Glen Milligan.
His two efforts this time in work have really caught the eye, storming the finish late to run third first-up at Port Macquarie, before again finding the money at Taree over 150m further.
He’s mixed his form over the 1300m trip in the past, but proven in slippery conditions and drawn to get back and run on late, this looks like a nice set up.
