Cheergal has finally drawn an inside gate for Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald. 

Still lightly raced for a four-year-old, this smart mare by So You Think has been forced to make up big ground from out wide in both runs back, finding the money on each occasion at Muswellbrook and Newcastle. 

She’s been working up to the mile nicely and notably won her maiden over this trip at Kembla Grange last July. Having proven capable of rain-affected going, the slightly soft conditions shouldn’t worry her. 

Altercation is third-up for Jason Dreamer, hoping to improve on two recent place efforts in town.  

The daughter to American Pharoah probably deserved to win fresh at Randwick when she was held up for a run, before going on to find the money against at Kensington where a late switch back to the inside likely cost her a couple of strides. 

This race lacks the same depth, so back to 1000m with race fitness on her side now, she may not receive a better chance to win. 

Crimson Bonnet has claims here in the wet fourth-up.  

The wide gate slightly complicates things, but she has run some huge races on dry tracks since resuming, cashing a cheque in all three starts at Tamworth and Gunnedah leading in. 

She’s done some of her best racing on heavy going in the past, and with the step back to 1100m likely proving beneficial, she’s more than capable of working her way into the money again if the rain continues to fall. 

Night Fighter is another serious chance each way first-up from a break. 

Sue Grills’ gelding resumes in search of a hat trick after capping of his spring campaign a comfortable winner at Coonamble 1400m. 

These shorter sprint trips are short of his best, but his wet track form receives a big tick, especially from a handy inside gate.
