2024/25 A-League Round 18 Tips & Preview

2024/25 A-League Round 18 Tips & Preview

Open wide for some Soccer!

The A-League keeps on rolling and we’ve got another massive week of domestic men’s Australian football coming your way!

Here is my preview for Round 18 of the 2024/25 A-League Season!

WELLINGTON PHOENIX V BRISBANE ROAR
Wellington H2H @ $2.30

They have just the one win in their last five games but Wellington get a great matchup against the Roar this Thursday and you already know what I’m picking in this game.

The Brisbane Roar are useless, there is no sugar-coating it and $2.30 looks to me a generous price for the ‘Nix here.

In their last five meetings Wellington have not lost, they’re 3-2-0 in those matchups and Brisbane, in my eyes is no chance here.

My strategy of backing Wellington blindly should pay off here.

ADELAIDE UNITED V MELBOURNE CITY
Adelaide H2H @ $2.05

Second placed Adelaide will host City on Friday night and are favoured over a City side who for the better part of the decade are just expected to be on top of the table at this point in the season.

City have lost two on the trot and are $3.25 underdogs in this fixture.

United are 3-1-1 in their last five without a win in their last two but I believe they’ll return to their winning ways in this one.

The home team has won each of Melbourne City’s last five games, the betting trends back up how I feel.

PERTH GLORY V CENTRAL COAST MARINERS
CCM H2H @ $2.15

The F3 Derby finished as a draw last week but the Mariners have a golden opportunity to secure three points this Friday with a very favourable matchup against Perth who are only slightly better than the Roar.

Perth only have two wins to their name this year and it will be an uphill battle for them here I’m afraid.

The Glory have the worst goal difference in the league with almost double the amount of negative GD compared to the next worse (it’s Brisbane).

CCM here for me.

NEWCASTLE JETS V MELBOURNE VICTORY
Melbourne Victory H2H @ $1.82

A bit of late heroics last week in the F3 derby saw the Jets secure a point against the Mariners, but the bookies don’t like their chances up against the Vics this Saturday afternoon.

There’s a bit of a bottleneck in that middle of the table area this season with the Vics in third place with a record of 7-4-4.

You’d have to think a team like the Jets who are currently third last aren’t going to be much of an issue for Melbourne.

Niche betting trend alert, Melbourne Victory has lost three of its last four day games as an away favourite.

Does that mean the Jets are a chance here?

I doubt it, even if they did come home strong against the Mariners last week.

SYDNEY FC V WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS
Sydney FC H2H @ $1.70

Hell yeah, Sydney derby.

Must watch A-League football on Saturday night, these sides hate each other and there are always plenty of fireworks in this matchup.

Result wise, it’s been almost all the Sky Blues recently.

They’ve had the wood over WSW in four of their last five meetings and are $1.70 in this one.

We’ve seen big upsets in this fixture before but it’s hard to go against Sydney FC, especially at that price discrepancy.

Sydney is Blue.

MACARTHUR FC V WESTERN UNITED
Western United H2H @ $2.75

We wrap up this week of football on Sunday afternoon with sixth placed Macarthur hosting the fourth Western United.

I’m struggling to split these two, as are the bookies. they have very similar records this year, almost identical for and againsts and neither of them won last week.

There could be a bit of value in United here, Western United FC has won three of its last four games as an underdog.

Given how hard it is to split these two, that’s where I lean.
