 No. 4 Written Bligh

J: Tom Prebble (56.5kg) T: Grahame Begg

Written Bligh likely would have claimed victory second-up with a bit more luck.

Grahame Begg’s mare faced a tough run, traveling three-wide into the turn and being squeezed between runners in the final 100m, ultimately finishing second.

There’s room for further improvement in her third run back though, while she’s notably placed in all four of her 1200m starts.

Mornington: Race 4 (5:25pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 4 Cash Converter

J: Rhys McLeod (59kg) T: Carly Thomas

Cash Converter has been racing consistently for some time and continues to maintain strong form.

The Headwater gelding faced challenges over this distance at Cranbourne in his last start, racing wide after struggling to settle under Rhys McLeod.

Despite being ridden hard out of the turn, he responded well, digging deep to finish second, beaten by less than half a length.

His late sectionals indicate he was strongest over the final 100m, and with potential for further improvement, a repeat performance could see him go very close.

Mornington: Race 5 (6:00pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Each Way

No. 5 Retourne

J: Damian Lane (58kg) T: Danny O'Brien

Retourne was originally set to race at Mornington on Sunday but was scratched in favor of this comparable assignment.

Danny O’Brien’s galloper began his prep in excellent form, earning prize money with consecutive placings over shorter distances at Caulfield’s Heath track.

By Shamexpress, he faced challenges at The Valley last start, finishing unplaced after drawing a wide gate and struggling to handle the tight track.

Now returning to a more spacious circuit with nearly four weeks between runs, I’m inclined to give him another opportunity to prove himself.

Mornington: Race 7 (7:00pm)

No. 9 Diamond Firetail

J: Craig Williams (56.5kg) T: James Cummings

Diamond Firetail is an intriguing runner on return for Godolphin.

The lightly-raced Epaulette filly has been given a good gap between runs since we last saw her racing at The Valley when beaten just under two lengths by the talented Blue Stratum.

Form around the likes of Tarpaulin also stands out on her resume, and she did run a handy race first-up to break maiden at Warwick Farm last year.
