Pakenham: Race 3 (5:45pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 6 Viasain

J: Jamie Mott (57.5kg) T: John McArdle

Viasain has a class edge over this small field on return.

A three-year-old son to Zousain, this promising young gelding out of the John McArdle stable tackled the Listed Exford Plate at Headquarters when beaten over four lengths to wrap up his maiden prep last September.

He hasn’t been seen since, but with a win first-up and an impressive jumpout win leading in, he looks well-placed to strike if he’s given the right ride up on the speed.

Pakenham: Race 5 (6:45pm)

Win

No. 12 Jenni The Jet

J: Ethan Brown (56.5kg) T: Ciaron Maher

Jenni The Jet was close to another win two back at The Valley, finding the line strongly where there was a noticeable gap back to third.

Luck was never on her side when she was beaten 1.5 lengths at Cranbourne last start, although the three-wide ride was against her from the very start.

Another wide gate makes this a slightly complicated assignment, but hard fit with some good form around smart horses of late, she’s a definite each-way shout in an open contest.

Pakenham: Race 7 (7:45pm)

Win

No. 4 Barbaric Lad

J: Jamie Mott (59kg) T: Anthony & Sam Freedman

Barbaric Lad is open to a stack of improvement second-up for Team Freedman.

The lightly-raced three-year-old found an extra gear to finish runner-up on return at Sale out wide, a handy bounce-back performance after disappointing for a run in town to cap off his spring.

The son of Brutal has won at this stage of his prep in the past and has drawn a nice soft gate to get back and launch late.

Pakenham: Race 8 (8:15pm)

Each Way

No. 12 Dane On Tour

J: Daniel Stackhouse (57.5kg) T: David & Coral Feek

Dane On Tour is stepping back slightly in trip after tackling 1700m at Flemington last time out.

The mare by Rebel Dane shot home strongly along the rails for third on New Year’s Day, an impressive performance given he was competing off a three-week break.

Back slightly in class with four runs under her belt, she has definite claims at good odds.
