Mornington: Race 1 (12:35pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Arimacs

J: Jake Noonan (59.5kg) T: Steven King

Arimacs has finished just outside the placings in the two races he’s contested so far.

Steven King’s five-year-old finished off only fairly for fourth on debut at Yarra Glen late last year, before stepping out off a three-week break where he fought on well along the rail stepping up sharply in trip.

The Kiwi-bred stayer was 1500m out to 1950m that day, so he should be better for the run with a bit of fitness on his side now. Open to natural improvement, the gate and the fact Jake Noonan takes over in the saddle are two big advantages.

Mornington: Race 5 (2:50pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win Market Mover

No. 2 Excess

J: Emily Pozman (61kg) T: Julius Sandhu

Excess just needs a touch of luck early on from the wide gate to be a factor.

The Snitzel mare is third-up for Julius Sandhu after showing a stack of improvement over the track and distance last start where she was beaten two lengths fourth.

There were excuses on offer over the final furlong after being held up for a run, while it’s worth noting she typically takes a few runs to warm into her prep – as we saw last year when she won on the Heath track at Caulfield.

Mornington: Race 7 (3:55pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 11 Socially Sassy

J: Jake Noonan (59kg) T: Tony Noonan

Socially Sassy steps out third-up and ready to win for Tony Noonan.

The mare by Group 1 winner Grunt has been super brave in both runs back, cashing a cheque at both starts here on her home track where she’s been forced to make up ground from a long way back.

Landing in the first half of the field from the low gate is the key to her chances as she races with the blinkers on now for the first time.

Mornington: Race 8 (4:25pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Each Way

No. 8 Retourne

J: Liam Riordan (58kg) T: Danny O'Brien

Keen to give Retourne another chance here at good each-way odds.

The four-year-old by Shamexpress looked like he was close to another win when finding the money in back-to-back starts at Caulfield Heath, before finishing down the order from a wide gate at The Valley.

It’s hard to know if he really handled the tight turns that day, but kept fresh for the run and drawn a nice soft gate, a bounce-back effort could be on the cards.
