Daily NHL Tips – Saturday, February 1

St Louis Blues @ Colorado Avalanche, 12:08pm

The Blues are still in the mix for a Wild Card spot in the West, but you wouldn’t know it judging by their last three losses to Vegas, Dallas, and Vancouver.

Worse yet, St Louis has lost seven of its last 10 to Colorado, averaging close to a goal less per game than the Avs.

Playing off a three-day break makes this an intriguing spot for the Blues, but given their recent form and Jordan Binnington’s struggles, the Avs still feel the safer option.

  • Tip: Back the Avs to Cover the Line (-1.5 Goals)

Player Pick

As mentioned, Binnington has allowed four goals in back-to-back games, so it’s worth loading up on Avs skaters in this one.

Cale Makar could cap off the month by scoring his eighth goal, or you could side with Nathan Mackinnon, who has registered over three shots in two of his last three outings against St Louis.

  • Tip: Cale Maker Anytime Goal Scorer, Nathan Mackinnon Over Shots Total
Columbus Blue Jackets @ Utah Hockey Club, 12:08pm

This is the only real rest mismatch on Saturday’s slate with the Jackets playing the second game of a back-to-back after playing in Vegas last night.

Dating back to last season, Columbus has lost 10 in a row in this spot, while UHC is looking to snap a three-game skid to improve on its .500 record.

With a game in Dallas ahead on Monday, I’m happy to fade the Jackets amid this tough road trip.

  • Tip: Back Utah to Win & Over 4.5 Goals
