Daily NHL Tips – Friday, January 24

Ottawa Senators @ Boston Bruins, 10:08am

Bit of a high-stakes game here between two sides fighting for life in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

The Bruins have drawn the short straw after losing 5-1 to the Devils at home last night, and with Jeremy Swayman starting between the pipes in that one, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Joonas Korpisalo get the nod.

The veteran netminder bounced back from an ugly loss to beat the Sharks last week, but having allowed 14 goals over his last three games, this could still get ugly.

  • Tip: Back the Senators to Win @ $1.92

Player Pick

Nine goals were scored when these two sides met a week ago, two of those coming off the stick of Senators center Josh Norris.

Columbus Blue Jackets @ Carolina Hurricanes, 10:08am

The Jackets pulled off a huge upset over the Leafs in Toronto last night, a result that should inspire them as they quickly head to Carolina on short rest.

It’s hard to know who’s starting in net after Elvis Merzlikins went last night, while it’s also worth noting the Canes are playing their third game in four days.

The travel, plus Carolina’s busy schedule, lends itself to a high-scoring game, which was the case on Christmas Eve when these two teams combined for seven goals.

  • Tip: Over 6.5 Goals
Buffalo Sabres @ Calgary Flames, 12:08pm

Decent little rest mismatch here with the Flames off a three-day break, and the Sabres playing their third game in four nights.

Calgary lost in a shootout when these two got together in late Novemner, but they shouldn’t be short on confidence following an impressive 3-1 win over the Jets on Tuesday.

  • Tip: Back the Flames to Win @ $1.75

Player Pick

Matt Coronato has developed into a promising young skater on Calgary’s right edge, as we saw in that aforementioned Winnipeg game when he found the back of the net early to give the Flames the lead.

With two goals over his last five games, the 22-year-old is worth backing to light the lamp again.
