Randwick Tips & Preview – Saturday, December 21

Royal Randwick will play host to a ten race card this Saturday.

The rail will be out 3m for the entire circuit and the track is currently rated a good 4.

With fine conditions expected for the remainder of the week, a firm surface is guaranteed.

We’ve run the rule over each event and our thoughts and selections can be found below.

RANDWICK: Race 1 (11:30am AEDT) SHINZO @ COOLMORE PLATE 2YO SW 1000M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Albany Road

J: Tim Clark (57kg) T: G Waterhouse & A Bott

Albany Road is one of several runners here to make their raceday debut.

A son of Exceed and Excel, the colt has been given two public trials and showed good improvement from his first heat.

Settling back in his most recent hit out over 740m, he let down strongly to win the trial.

Tim Clark will do the steering for Gai and Adrian and barrier six should see him afforded every chance.

RANDWICK: Race 2 (12:05pm AEDT) TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP CLASS 3 1600M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 8 In Summer

J: Zac Lloyd (55kg) T: Paul Messara & Leah Gavranich

In Summer is building a tidy record having collected two wins and two second placings from just five race starts and she looks very progressive.

A daughter of The Autumn Sun, she was beaten only narrowly when resuming but proved superior second up out to 1300m.

Last start, she came to town for the first time and in heavy conditions worked home strongly to finish a clear second over the 1500m at Rosehill.

The slight rise to the mile looks ideal and with luck form the wide draw, she’ll be doing her best work late.

RANDWICK: Race 3 (1:40pm AEDT) MIDWAY HANDICAP BM72 1600M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Rapt

J: Tim Clark (58.5kg) T: Jason Deamer

Rapt kicked off her campaign with a very encouraging effort over 1300m in the Listed Just Now at Eagle Farm.

Settling back at the tail, she finished off strongly down the outside to claim fourth.

She strips fitter for that outing and looks ideally placed here back in grade.

The More Than Ready mare is unbeaten in two starts over the mile and does race particularly well second up.

Tim Clark will take the mount for Newcastle trainer Jason Deamer and gate five should see her afforded every chance.

RANDWICK: Race 4 (2:15pm AEDT) INGLIS CLASSIC SALE HANDICAP BM78 F&M 1400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Terrestar

J: Zac Wadick (58kg) T: M, W & J Hawkes

Terrestar has finished the runner up in three of her past four outings and gets her chance to go one better here.

Over the 1400m journey two runs back at Newcastle she powered home late to go down by just half a head and last time, over that same trip, she again made a late charge to only just miss.

She’s fit, she gets in nicely with the 2kg claim for Zac Wadick and is sure to be doing her best work late.

RANDWICK: Race 5 (2:50pm AEDT) PETALUMA HANDICAP BM72 1300M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Dawn Service

J: Benjamin Osmond (61.5kg) T: G Waterhouse & A Bott

Dawn Service returns to the races.

The regally bred colt showed plenty of talent in his first campaign, taking out the Exford Plate at his fourth race start before missing a top three spot for the first time when failing to finish off in the Stutt Stakes.

He was subsequently spelled and comes here off two solid trials.

From barrier three, he’ll be able to put himself up there without doing any work early and with the 3kg claim for Benjamin Osmond, he gets in nicely.

RANDWICK: Race 6 (3:25pm AEDT) PRECISE AIR HANDICAP BM78 2400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Duke of Condicote

J: Zac Wadick (59kg) T: Ciaron Maher

Duke Of Condicote hasn’t been far away in three Australian starts and looks ready to peak out to 2400m.

Formally prepared in the UK, the No Nay Never gelding hadn’t raced for over three years but has returned in good order and has been doing his best work late at his past two.

He’s sure to relish stepping out to this trip and will be well suited on the big Randwick track.

Zad Wadick will do the steering for Ciaron Maher and his 2kg claim sees the gelding in nicely at the weights.

RANDWICK: Race 7 (4:00pm AEDT) CAPTIVANT @ KIA ORA HANDICAP BM72 1600M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 7 Bright Red

J: Zac Lloyd (58kg) T: Chris Waller

Bright Red has been placed in two runs back from a break and looks ready to peak.

Resuming over 1300m, she loomed down the outside but just looked to peak on her run late.

Up to 1500m last time in the heavy 10 conditions, she came right to the outside fence under Nash, making good ground late to claim second.

All three of her wins have come over the mile so she’ll certainly appreciate the slight rise in trip and she’s drawn to receive all the favours under Zac Lloyd, who takes the mount for Chris Waller.

RANDWICK: Race 8 (4:40pm AEDT) JAMES SQUIRE HANDICAP BM100 1400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 7 So Risque

J: Tyler Schiller (53.5kg) T: Ben, Will & Jd Hayes

So Risque was only plain when resuming over at Ballarat two weeks ago but the Lindsay Park trained galloper will have taken plenty of benefit from the outing.

Pressed forward, he did work hard through the early part and just peaked on his run late under the 60kg impost.

The ultra consistent son of So You Think has continued to improve with racing and produced some terrific performances last campaign.

He boasts solid form around him and holds an impressive second up record.

He does rise in grade but drops significantly in the weights and gets the winkers back on.

RANDWICK: Race 9 (5:20pm AEDT) TOYOTA FORKLIFTS HANDICAP BM94 1100M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win Market Mover

No. 2 Garza Blanca

J: Dylan Browne McMonagle (60.5kg) T: Ciaron Maher

Garza Blanca was luckless when resuming at Flemington on Oaks Day but the I Am Invincible gelding bounced back in style, recording a solid victory in the Listed Doveton Stakes last start.

Prepared by Ciaron Maher, the five year old has always shown plenty of talent and currently holds the 1200m course record at Cranbourne, which he set back in 2022.

He hasn’t always had the best of luck but has continued to perform well throughout his short career.

There is a big rise in the weights but he drops back in the grade and boasts a good record here at Randwick.

RANDWICK: Race 10 (5:55pm AEDT) TAB HANDICAP BM78 1300M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 9 Accredited

J: Chad Schofield (58kg) T: Joseph Pride

Accredited comes off a deserved last start win over 1200m at Warwick Farm.

The son of All Too Hard was a good thing beat when resuming over 1100m at Canterbury, held up in the early part of the straight he charged late once clear to only just miss.

Leaving nothing to chance last time, he was taken straight to the front and kicked away over the final part to score by over three lengths.

An ultra constituent galloper, he’s continued to progress through his grades with relative ease and the slight rise to 1300m here looks ideal.
