Caulfield Heath Tips & Preview – Saturday, December 14

Following a midweek meeting on Thursday, racing continues on the Caulfield Heath track on Saturday with 10 races set to make up the program.

The Magic Millions 2YO Classic is the main headline act on the program, while there’s also big value on offer in the 3&4YO race later in the afternoon.

For thoughts and analysis across the meeting, you can read our full Caulfield preview below!

Race 1 - 12:15PM MRC Clip Clop Club Handicap (1500 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win Market Mover

No. 4 Cilacap

J: Zac Spain (54kg) T: Grahame Begg

Cilacap is open to further improvement in her third run back for Graheme Begg.

Zac Spain had this daughter to Written Tycoon in the perfect spot last start at Geelong, parking fourth off the speed before timing his run to perfection down the outside for a narrow win right on the line.

With just the two runs under her belt, she looked to have plenty left in the tank when crossing the line, so the only real query now is whether she handles racing back on top of the ground after relishing the heavy track.

Race 2 - 12:45PM ive > Print Handicap (1200 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Each Way

No. 1 Georgie Get Mad

J: Jett Stanley (63kg) T: Denis Pagan

Georgie Get Mad can run a nice race here at odds.

The British raider under the care of Denis Pagan made her presence felt a couple of weeks ago at The Valley, settling up on the speed nice and early before weakening out to finish fourth in her first run back from a spell.

Considering she was wide in transit for most of the journey, she’s worth another look with a nice soft gate and the claim put to good use. Having also won second-up, getting out to a slightly bigger track can’t hurt.

Race 3 - 1:20PM MRC Chairman's Club Handicap (1600 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Presser

J: Ryan Houston (62kg) T: Gavin Bedggood

Presser has simply gone to another level since changing over to Gavin Bedggood’s stable at the start of his current prep.

A son to Press Statement, the talented six-year-old has featured in the money in all five races he’s contested, finally breaking through for a well-deserved victory at The Valley to start the month where he went three lengths clear.

Apprentice Ryan Houston didn’t have to do much that day despite getting back early in the run, allowing his ride to work through his gears down the outside to find the line in impressive style.

Rock-hard fit now and only up slightly in class, a similar effort wouldn’t surprise.

Race 4 - 1:55PM Sportsbet Jockey Watch Handicap (1500 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Each Way

No. 7 Makena

J: Damian Lane (55.5kg) T: Chris Waller

Makena is well worth another look each way.

Chris Waller sent this mare around over the same track and distance three weeks ago where she worked home nicely from a three-wide position to miss out on another win by the smallest of margins.

The daughter to Zoustar had a stack of ground to make up after settling midfield, but we could see her a little further forward this time in a thinner race that lacks early speed.

Sticking to 1500m and dropping 5kg in the saddle, this girl could surprise at nice odds.

Race 5 - 2:30PM Magic Millions VIC 2YO Classic (1100 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 8 Invincible Woman

J: Damian Lane (56kg) T: Lloyd Kennewell & Lucy Yeomans

Invincible Woman just needs luck from a slightly awkward gate to make every post a winner.

The Lloyd Kennewell-trained filly is on debut, doing just that in a recent jumpout where she landed up on the speed and kept finding to lap up the heavy conditions at Cranbourne.

A half-sister to Ambassadorial, she’ll set a nice tempo in the early stages and take real catching with Damian Lane also in good form.

Race 6 - 3:05PM Magic Millions VIC 3YO & 4YO Classic (1200 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Miraval Rose

J: Saffie Osborne (57kg) T: Grahame Begg

Miraval Rose was my best bet at Caulfield a couple of weeks ago in the Village Stakes and I’m not about to hop off.

The mare by Grunt jumped fairly and parked midfield, before finding the centre of the straight out of the bend where she fought on bravely for third in a good go for the line.

Considering that was her first start since June, she’s clearly open to natural improvement as a previous Stakes winner here at Caulfield.

Back in grade and out to 1200m second-up, she ticks a few important boxes with potentially bigger races in her sights.

Race 7 - 3:45PM Sportsbet Racing Form Handicap (1800 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Each Way Market Mover

No. 5 Bon Mistress

J: Craig Williams (59.5kg) T: K & K Keys

Bon Mistress might be over the odds ahead of her second look at 1800m.

The Keys-trained mare to Group 1 winner Bon Hoffa is deep into her prep fourth-up having received no luck on a heavy track last start in the Summoned Stakes over the mile.

The wide gate didn’t help matters either, but you only have to go back and look at her previous two wins at Ballarat and Flemington to get an idea of how well she was tracking.

With Craig Williams taking over now, she’s well worth another look at good each-way odds.

Race 8 - 4:20PM Evergreen Turf Handicap (1000 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Each Way

No. 10 Lazy Susan

J: Declan Bates (60kg) T: Gavin Bedggood

Lazy Susan has gone up a nice price for a mare that has mixed form with some smart horses of late.

The Capitalist mare was a distant two-length runner-up to Isthmus three back at Sandown over 1000m, form that stacks up with that same mare coming out and winning the Group 3 Begonia Belle earlier this month.

Her most recent effort saw her finish midfield behind the talented Niance, a run she’s been kept fresh for with a good two-month break between.

The gate is a slight issue, but if she presses forward early and races on speed under Declan Bates, she could be right in this.

Race 9 - 5:00PM ive > idea > execution Handicap (1500 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Warnie

J: Saffie Osborne (55kg) T: Ciaron Maher

Warnie continues to race well for Ciaron Maher, finding the line nicely for third in the Heffernan Stakes on Zipping Classic Day a couple of weeks ago.

He was given a nice four-week gap between runs after achieving a similar result on Cup Day in behind Bel Air over 1400m at Flemington, two runs that should see him hard to beat up slightly in trip now.

Where apprentice Saffron Osborne lands in the run will prove key to his chances, but back on top of the ground now after tackling a Heavy 8 last start, another top-three showing should be on the cards.

Race 10 - 5:40PM Sportsbet More Places Handicap (1200 METRES)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 7 Zou Sensation

J: Ben Allen (58.5kg) T: L & T Corstens & W Larkin

Zou Sensation looks like the safest play in a race that could throw up a few curveballs to end the day.

In search of his hat-trick now, the gelding by Zoustar has really impressed over his last two starts, winning by a combined 3.75 lengths at Kyneton and The Valley in BM78 grade.

He strikes a tougher assignment here but is aided by the inside gate with Ben Allen steering.

Owning a record-breaking win over Boldinho two back, one that smashed the clock, he’ll be hard to beat if he adopts his usual position in behind the speed.
