The Brisbane Racing Club will sign off on 2024 this Saturday at Eagle Farm with the Magic Millions Prelude Raceday.
With Magic Millions just two weeks away, this meeting plays an important role with three wild cards to the $14.5 million Gold Coast Raceday up for grabs.
The Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate is the highlight on Saturday’s card and is ably supported by the Listed Nudgee Stakes, The Shootout and The Buffering.
We’ve provided our top selections for each of the ten races below.
Race 1 - 1:13pm AEDT BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1300 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 15 Superhero
Superhero (15) has been a model of consistency this preparation.
Prior to coming to Queensland, the Neasham & Archibald-trained Deep Field colt’s form read two close seconds either side of a strong win over 1400m at Hawkesbury.
Last start he was held up in the straight before finding the line well late and should have finished closer than his three-length third.
He remains in the same grade race and drops 2kg with top jockey Jason Collett taking the ride.
Race 2 - 1:48pm AEDT QTIS 2YO HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 2 Grafterburners
Grafterburners (2) looks a talented colt from the Kelly Schweida stable.
The son of Graff found the line strongly despite being impeded in horrendous conditions at the Gold Coast on debut when finishing 1.7 lengths third.
Last start he did something that’s hard to do, particularly for a young horse, and that was storm home from last at the top of the straight to win by two lengths over 1100m at Ipswich.
I expect him to continue his upward trajectory with the benefit of a good gate and rise in distance.
Race 3 - 2:23pm AEDT EAGLE WAY (2100 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 5 Sun Worshipper
Sun Worshipper (5) was very good in the Ladbrokes Grand Prix Stakes last start when finishing three lengths second.
The Matt Kropp-trained filly gave the winner Beau Dazzler too much start but worked nicely to the line suggesting that she’ll eat up the 2100m on offer here.
Importantly, she will carry just 52kg and will meet Beau Dazzler 6kg better at the weights.
She’s rock hard fit and should enjoy an economical run for top bloke Mark Du Plessis.
Race 4 - 2:58pm AEDT BENCHMARK 78 Handicap (1830 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 10 Iverson
Iverson (10) enters this race at peak fitness and ready to win.
The Rob Heathcote-trained son of So You Think recorded the fastest final 600m of the race when finding the line strongly to finish a length third over 1600m here.
The rise to 1800m suits and I suspect he will prefer the drier surface.
The winkers come off and he will benefit from a decent tempo.
Race 5 - 3:37pm AEDT BENCHMARK 78 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 4 Metal Art
Metalart (4) found the line strongly over 1350m in heavy conditions at Doomben last start and hit the front but had to settle for a head second when Ovidius fought back.
The Kelly Schweida-trained gelding has been building to a win with three consecutive placings and looks close to a breakthrough.
Since his last race he’s been back to the trials where he produced a super piece of work.
He won his only previous race over this course and distance and maps to get a sweet run for champion hoop Michael Rodd.
Race 6 - 4:12pm AEDT LISTED NUDGEE STAKES (1200 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 9 Cigar Flick
Cigar Flick (9) is due for a change of luck and will hopefully get it with the in form Chad Schofield replacing the apprentice.
The Chris Waller-trained mare was held up two starts ago in the G3 How Now Stakes at Caulfield before finding the line strongly once clear to finish two lengths fifth.
Last start in the Listed Just Now over 1300m here she was squeezed when finding the line and lost momentum only to come again and miss the win by a half-length.
In her only previous start over this course and distance she broke the track record.
Race 7 - 4:52pm AEDT G3 VO ROGUE PLATE (1300 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 3 Catoggio
Catoggio (3) returns to the races following a successful Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
The Waterhouse & Bott-trained son of Written Tycoon sat outside the lead in the Listed Amanda Elliott at Flemington and proved too strong in the run home, winning and defeating Bosustow by a neck.
He was then unlucky in the G3 Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield when getting stuck behind the tiring Coleman but too his credit he finished off strongly when eventually clear for third.
A recent trial will have tuned him up nicely for a bold first-up showing.
He’s drawn to get a beautiful run for Vlad Duric.
Race 8 - 5:32pm AEDT THE BUFFERING (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 7 Contemporary
Contemporary (7) is racing better than the form guide would suggest.
The James Cummings-trained gelding never saw daylight when resuming in the Listed Starlight Stakes with a 2.6 length sixth.
Last start he suffered interference when squeezed by stablemate Pereille shortly after straightening in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap before picking himself up and charging late to finish 1.5 lengths sixth.
He’ll strip fitter and boasts an impressive record of three wins from five third-up races.
Race 9 - 6:08pm AEDT THE SHOOT OUT (2100 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 2 Nikau Spur
For the life of me I cannot work out why the market is disrespecting Nikau Spur (2) but I’m happy to take the $14 for the win at time of publication.
The Corey & Kylie Geran-trained evergreen gelding has been racing in a rich vein of form.
Four starts ago ‘Ronny’ proved too strong when dashing clear to win the Listed Queensland Cup by three lengths.
Since then he has travelled to Sydney where he won the Listed Newcastle Cup before storming home to finish two lengths third in the Listed Christmas Cup at Randwick.
He’s in the form of his life and loves racing at Eagle Farm.
I like the booking of multiple G1 winning jockey Mark Du Plessis who will be keen to avenge his head second in the Toowoomba Cup on this guy.
Race 10 - 6:44pm AEDT BENCHMARK 90 Handicap (1000 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 2 Steady Ready
Steady Ready (2) will appreciate a dry track after struggling late in the heavy conditions at the Sunshine Coast last start when resuming.
I expect a big turnaround on a good surface just as he did last preparation when winning the Listed Lightning over this course and distance.
On that occasion, he struggled first-up on a heavy track before leading all the way when getting on a Good 4 surface second-up, exactly the scenario he faces here.
Cody Collis, who claims 2kg, can drive forward and give them something to catch.
