2024/25 A-League Round 7 Tips & Preview

2024/25 A-League Round 7 Tips & Preview

We return to a full schedule of A-League fixtures this week after a shorter Round 6.

Auckland simply cannot be stopped and we are treated to another Kiwi Classico early in the season.

There’s plenty of football action this weekend and I’ve got you covered for tips across every fixture.

Here is my preview for Round 7 of the 2024/25 A-League Season!

BRISBANE ROAR V MELBOURNE CITY
City H2H $2.20

The Roar finished with their best result of the season last week… a draw after a chaotic game against Macarthur.

They’re still looking for their first win of the season and will be hard pressed to find it this Friday night against a Melbourne City outfit who will be fired up after going down to the Wanderers.

Last weeks outing showed that City are indeed beatable by bottom teams but I don’t give the Roar much hope here.

AUCKLAND FC V WELLINGTON PHOENIX
Wellington H2H @ $3.90

Episode two of the Kiwi Classico kicks off 3pm AEDT and this is easily the game of the round.

The two sides I’ve always backed blindly at the nose this season do battle and while technically I can back both teams to win, we won’t see much of a collect if we do.

Auckland are yet to lose a game six rounds into the season and are $1.90 favourites here.

But the Phoenix know how to win, they knocked off the Victory in their last fixture and have had a long time between games to rest up and get their plan ready for this one.

I’m with the upset, Auckland can’t win them all and the Phoenix H2H will never not be my favourite bet.

NEWCASTLE JETS V ADELAIDE UNITED
United H2H @ $1.92

The 11th placed Jets will host third placed Adelaide United on Saturday afternoon in a fixture I don’t hold much hope in for Newy.

The Reds are still yet to lose a game this season and with just the three points to Newcastle’s name, this is set up to be a one sided affair.

The underdog has won each of Adelaide’s last four games at McDonald Jones Stadium but I’m not buying it here.

WESTERN UNITED V MACARTHUR FC
United H2H @ $2.35

Both these sides will be looking to play themselves into a bit of form here after a rough start to the season.

With just three wins between them, the bookies have struggled to split United and The Bulls and I’m struggling to do the same.

Macarthur let the Roar score four on them last week and for that reason I lean towards a United win, poor defence against the worst team in the league can only end in tears.

MELBOURNE VICTORY V PERTH GLORY
Victory -1 @ $1.75

Quite possibly the most one sided affair we’ve seen from a head to head market this season, the second placed Victory are $1.28 to the 2nd last placed Glory’s $9.25.

The Glory’s goal difference is easily the worst in the league by a whopping difference of -8 and the Vics bounced back from that loss to Wellington with a 3-1 over Western United last week.

One way traffic here, give me Melbourne -1

CENTRAL COAST MARINERS V SYDNEY FC
Sydney H2H @ $2.15

We wrap things up on Sunday afternoon with a clash between the Mariners and Sydney FC.

CCM secured their first win of the season last time out in the F3 Derby but could have fallen straight back out of form after two losses in the AFC Champions league in the last two weeks.

The Sky Blues have been very inconsistent this year but should win this one.

There could be an argument for a play on the Mariners, Sydney FC has lost four of its last five games as a favourite following a win but I don’t think CCM have the class to get it done here.
