No. 9 Colour Our World

J: Jordan Childs (56kg) T: Matthew Williams

Colour Our World looks as though she’ll appreciate longer second-up.

Matthew Williams’ there-year-old filly by Blue Point ran a smart race fresh over 1200m at Warrnambool, running on late for third in restricted room to finish half a length off.

She was far from disgraced over 1300m to wrap up her maiden prep, beaten just over two lengths by Cavity Bay, who has since gone on to run well in G2 company.

Just needing a touch of luck from out wide under Jordan Childs, she shouldn’t be a maiden for much longer.

Ballarat: Race 6 (4:00pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Takeko

J: Jordan Childs (60kg) T: Grahame Begg

Takeko is worth forgiving on a disappointing second-up effort at Mornington last time in work.

Grahame Begg’s mare overraced at a crucial stage and made contact with another runner down the straight, finishing seven lengths off when she was second last to greet the judge.

Her win on debut at Sale earlier in May was a solid piece of work though, one that reads well for this fresh assignment on a dry deck.

On the back of some solid recent jumpouts, she should take beating with even luck.

Best of the day

No. 10 Fitzpatrick

J: Jye McNeil (58.5kg) T: A & S Freedman

Fitzpatrick is an honest three-year-old who strikes another winnable race despite the large field.

The son of Snitzel charged into the frame to run second at Mornington last start, a pleasing effort after spending time racing well up in Queensland over the winter.

His lone win came at this stage of his prep last time in work, and he should find 1200m right up his alley carrying only 58.5kg.

Ballarat: Race 8 (5:00pm)

No. 2 Rick’s Cafe

J: Luke Cartwright (62kg) T: Rhiannon Schiffer

Rick’s Cafe looks a leading chance deep into her prep.

The old girl by Americain has handed in some honest efforts of late, notably finishing runner-up to Lievore two back in the Pinker Pinker Plate at Cranbourne.

That form has held up nicely since, and we know he’ll see out the 2000m trip with a stack of fitness on his side. He does need luck from the gate, but after spending time racing in town this prep, this should be a slightly easier contest.
