Daily Racing Tips – Sunday, November 3

Mornington: Race 5 (3:10pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Duke Of Hastings

J: Emily Pozman (64kg) T: Simon Zahra

Duke Of Hastings doesn’t win out of turn, but at his very best he should be winning her at a short price.

Simon Zahra’s talented stayer featured in the money two back over 2000m at this course, a race he probably would have won if he wasn’t held up at a crucial stage coming out of the turn where he was eventually forced to settle for second.

The tactics were against him last start at Moe where he was slowly away, but he has to be respected with a couple of placings to his name over 2400m.

If he jumps on time and handles the extra weight, he’ll likely prove too classy for most of these.

Mornington: Race 7 (4:15pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 6 Placentia Bay

J: Ben Allen (59kg) T: Ciaron Maher

Placentia Bay is a lightly-raced four-year-old racing well for Ciaron Maher.

A son to Churchill, this talented galloper has spent all three starts racing over the mile during his maiden prep, winning by an impressive 2.5 length margin on debut at Cranbourne last month.

Things never went to plan last start where he was forced ride and never in clear air, but from a perfect gate this time with a stack of fitness on his side, the price is tough to ignore with Ben Allen retaining the ride.

Mornington: Race 8 (4:50pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Coin Toss

J: Jye McNeil (59.5kg) T: G Waterhouse & A Bott

Dual Group 2 winner Coin Toss is the standout pick in the Peninsula Cup.

The Waterhouse and Bott five-year-old is third-up following a run in the Sale Cup a couple of weeks ago, a decent effort considering he rattled home late from a wide gate to run third in tight quarters.

A winner at this stage of his prep in the past, it’s hard to look past him from a nice soft gate with Jye McNeil taking the ride.

Mornington: Race 9 (5:25pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 8 Tacito

J: Daniel Stackhouse (59kg) T: Ben, Will & Jd Hayes

Tacito is an interesting runner going around at a price on return for Team Hayes.

The gelding by Showtime mixed his form last time in work, but he has competed in much tougher races than this – including when he ran second first-up at Sandown to lead off that same prep.

His two fresh efforts in the past have both been solid, while it’s worth noting he might have a class edge over a few of these having placed at Group 3 level.
