Pakenham: Race 1 (6:15pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 6 I Only Wish

J: Thomas Stockdale (57kg) T: R Griffiths & M De Kock

I Only Wish is a five-start maiden looking close to scoring her breakthrough win.

This lightly-raced filly had a bit against her last time she stepped out at Pakenham, facing a wet track where she was held up badly and forced to settle for second.

She was quickly thrown in the deep end last start at The Valley where she was far from disgraced in a G2 Fillies Classic, finishing midfield off a tough wide run.

Back in class and trip now, she’d be one of the hardest to beat on the program tonight.

Pakenham: Race 3 (7:15pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Salsita

J: Rhys McLeod (59kg) T: Emma-Lee & David Browne

Salsita returned to the winner’s stall two weeks ago with a tough run up on the speed at Kyneton.

The four-year-old son to Shocking was brave fending off a late challenge over the closing stages, an enormous effort given he was second-up off a lengthy spell.

Back over 200m shorter this time and likely to roll forward early in a race that lacks speed, he’ll be difficult to run down.

Pakenham: Race 4 (7:45pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 9 Olney

J: Teodore Nugent (58kg) T: G Eurell

Olney just found one better on return at Mornington first-up over 1200m.

Greg Eurell’s three-year-old made up steady ground to finish a distant runner-up, but clearly showed some late toe through the line to suggest he might handle racing over further.

The son of Territories gets that here stepping up to 1400m, and with a run under his belt on debut here earlier in the year, he looks well-placed for an overdue maiden win.

Pakenham: Race 6 (8:45pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 6 Here Comes Johnnie

J: Adam McCabe (59.5kg) T: Clinton McDonald

Here Comes Johnnie would probably be undefeated if he wasn’t held up for a run last start at Sale.

The four-year-old gelding by Pierro was having just his second start up to the mile after winning stylishly on debut when he found the clear over the final 100m.

Fitter now and sticking to 1600m from a perfect gate, he’s worth sticking with.
