Season Review
Highlights: Every Warriors home game was sold out this year as New Zealand was swept with Rugby League fever.
The emergence of Mitch Barnett as one of the best forwards in the game was a delight to watch.
There were few more stunning wins this season than the Magic Round shock of Penrith and the final round comeback on the road to the Sharks to send club icon Shaun Johnson out a winner will long be remembered.
Lowlights: Expectations were through the roof heading into 2024 and the run never really got going.
Two close losses that should have been wins in the first two rounds proved costly.
A home loss and a road flogging to the Titans were both embarrassing and Addin Fonua-Blake’s off-field dramas created plenty of instability around the team.
Poor goalkicking proved costly at times including a shocker from Chanel Harris-Tavita that cost the Warriors against the Raiders.
Shaun Johnson could not recapture his 2023 form and injuries cruelled the campaign.
What Worked: For good or ill, no team was better at completing sets than the Warriors, who finished 82% of theirs.
It led to the Warriors having 51% of the ball, second in the NRL.
New Zealand were strong at asking questions of the line with the Warriors leading the NRL in line engagements and ranking second in decoy runs.
The Warriors tackled well, missing the second fewest tackles in the NRL.
What Didn’t: The Warriors lacked in some key effort areas, ranking second last for supports and they struggled to break the line despite engagements, ranking bottom quadrant for line breaks.
The Warriors were certainly conservative with their style, ranking second last in offloads.

- The over was typically the play when the Warriors were at Mt Smart, going over in seven of 10.
