No. 7 Madame Maserati

J: Zac Spain (56.5kg) T: Lloyd Kennewell & Lucy Yeomans

Zac Spain has retained the ride on the talented Madame Maserati.

We saw this filly by I Am Invincible come out and win her maiden stylishly at Warrnambool fresh from a spell, peeling away from midfield to reel in the leaders for a diving win right on the line.

Her second-up effort up in grade at Morphettville three weeks later was just as good, beaten half a length following a slow getaway from the barriers.

Back in grade now and in well at the weights, this look a very winnable assignment following that experience.

Ballarat: Race 6 (4:00pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 2 Changing Colours

J: Joao Moreira (59.5kg) T: Chris Waller

Changing Colours should be winning second-up for Chris Waller.

The daughter to The Autumn Sun was enormous on return at Bendigo two weeks ago, forced to run on late down the outside after settling last in transit under Damian Lane.

Joao Moreira gets a crack in the saddle now, and after winning her maiden over a similar trip at Kyneton back in May, this slight rise in distance should suit.

Ballarat: Race 7 (4:30pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 9 Double Market

J: Michael Dee (57kg) T: Ben, Will & Jd Hayes

Double Market looks like she’ll appreciate the mile in her second start.

The Hayes-trained filly won her maiden in eye-catching fashion here over 1400m to kick off her career, forced to shift wide at the top of the straight before letting down with a powerful turn of foot for a brave win on the line.

She came into contact with another runner on a couple of occasions over the final 200m, so it’s fair to say she might have won by more.

Drawn a perfect gate and carrying only 1.5kg extra under Michael Dee, this looks the right race for her to take the next step.

Ballarat: Race 8 (5:00pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 13 Campari Twist

J: Ben Allen (56.5kg) T: Matt Laurie

Campari Twist should be racing with confidence after shedding hte maiden tag in a weaker race at Bendigo last month.

By So You Think, Matt Laurie’s filly hasn’t put a foot wrong so far this prep, improving sharply on back to back placings leading in.

She’s been given a nice gap between runs and does have some experience racing with some sting out of the track. If she gets forward early and looks to lead, she’ll be one of the toughest to catch.
