No. 2 Subsix

J: Rhys McLeod (61kg) T: Lloyd Kennewell & Lucy Yeomans

Subsix is open to further improvement back over 1000m.

Lloyd Kennewell’s gelding rattled home late into third at Bendigo last start, taken back early under DamiaN Lane where he was forced to make up enormous ground in the run home.

The son of Fastnet Rock was competing off a four-week break that day, winning well the start prior over this distance range at Cranbourne.

With fitness on his side now and natural improvement to come, he should take beating if he settles closer to the speed.

No. 9 In Your Hands

J: Jamie Mott (56.5kg) T: Andrea Leek

In Your Hands continues to race well for Andrew Leek.

The mare by Preferment can mix her form, but she’s been super honest this time in work, cashing a cheque in her last four starts since changing stables.

Her runner-up effort at Mornington last start was eye-catching, speeding out to lead and just tiring late over her final few strides where she wasn’t beaten by much.

Having finally drawn an inside gate this time with Jamie Mott experienced in the saddle, another top-three performance should be on the cards.

No. 3 Arran Bay

J: Daniel Stackhouse (59kg) T: Phillip Stokes

Arran Bay gets out to his preferred trip third-up in the Sale Cup.

Phillip Stokes’ gelding hasn’t tasted a win since he narrowly prevailed at Mornington wrap up his autumn campaign, but two runs this time in work over 1400m should have topped him off nicely ahead of the step up to the mile.

The son of All Too Hard was clearly looking for further last start at Flemington in the Listed Paris Lane Stakes, working home fairly between a pair of runners.

With three of his eight career wins coming over 1600m, this looks the perfect setup for him with the inside gate also working to his favour.

No. 1 Prancing Spirit

J: Sage Duric (63kg) T: Phillip Stokes

Tough race to end the day with a few of the key chances resuming.

Prancing Spirit has drawn awkwardly on return, but does bring with him some experience in tougher Saturday races.

Phillip Stokes’ five-year-old hasn’t won in close to a year, but he does rate one of the top picks with form around some smart types after racing at Caulfield earlier in the year.

If he shuffles across early and finds cover around midfield, his best should be good enough to finish over the top.
