Daily NHL Tips – Wednesday, October 16

New Jersey Devils @ Carolina Hurricanes, 9:00am
Tip: Back the Hurricanes to Win @ $1.70

The Devils shutout Utah 3-0 on home ice last night, but they now face a quick turnaround on the road when they travel to Carolina on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes have played only one game to start the season – a 1-4 loss to the Lightning last Saturday.

Jesper Fast’s injury is still a slight concern on the defensive side, but off a lengthy break with home ice advantage, I’m happy to take the price on the ‘Canes before their schedule really ramps up.

Minnesota Wild @ St Louis Blues, 9:30am
Tip: Matt Boldy Anytime Goal Scorer. Kirill Kaprizov Anytime Goal Scorer

The Wild are off to a slow 1-2 start to the season after losing to the Kraken and Jets in back to back games, but they should find this a winnable matchup against the Blues on the road.

St Louis is off to a 2-1 start, but Drew Bannister’s side has appeared vulnerable defensively allowing the 10th most shots on goal.

The Wild aren’t known for their offence, but they’ve surprisingly been a Top 5 team when it comes to shots through the first week of the regular season, led by Matt Boldy and Kirill Kaprizov.

Both have found the back of the net through three games, making either a worthy bet to score on Minnesota’s left wing.

Philadelphia Flyers @ Edmonton Oilers, 12:00pm
Tip: Matvei Michkov Anytime Goal Scorer

It’s early days, but the Oilers sure don’t feel like a team that made it all the way to Game 7 of a Stanley Cup Final last year.

Sitting 0-3, Edmonton has lost back to back stinkers to the Jets and Blackhawks before Monday’s 1-4 loss in the Battle of Alberta.

Up next, a plucky Flyers team that looks much improved on last year, even if Philly themselves lost to the Flames only a couple of days ago

First round draft pick Matvei Michkov was electric on debut against the Sharks last week, tallying four shots and setting up a couple of key chances.

He was held quiet against Calgary, but did finish with an assist in just over 18 minutes of ice time.

It’s only a matter of when, not if, this youngster finds the back of the net, and with the Oilers far from their best, Wednesday might be the night.
