Daily NHL Tips – Thursday, October 17

Buffalo Sabres @ Pittsburgh Penguins, 9:10am
Tip: Tage Thompson Anytime Goal Scorer

Only four games on Thursday’s slate, so we’ll just have a couple of plays to keep it simple.

I’m always reluctant to bet on Buffalo, but Tage Thompson’s fast start to the season cannot be ignored.

The  Sabres’ centre has scored two goals and two points through four games, while he’s also proven a handful for the Pens over the last five or so years, scoring seven goals in 18 games.

Against a Pittsburgh side that ranks Top 5 in goals against per-game played, Thomspon to find the back of the net looks a worthwhile play.

Los Angeles Kings @ Toronto Maple Leafs, 9:40am
Tip: Auston Matthews Over 4.5 Shots @ $1.73, Auston Matthews Anytime Goal Scorer

After putting the puck in net 69 times last year, we’re all eagerly awaiting Auston Matthews to score his first goal of the season for the Leafs.

Toronto’s new captain is off to a slow start, but he still leads the team in shots on goal with 15 through three games.

I thought he was unlucky on a couple of occasions not to score against the Penguins last week, but off three days’ rest with William Nylander potentially out due to illness, this might be the night he buries one.
