Black-type racing returns to Eagle Farm this Saturday with the Listed Queensland Cup headlining the 10-race program.
Rain through the week could have the track rated somewhere in the Heavy range, while the rail is out 4m across the circuit.
For analysis and best bets across the entire meeting, check out our preview below.
Race 1 - 11:43AM Road to Magic Millions on Sale QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1820 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 6 Propose
Propose gets her shot in town after running on late for third in the Toowoomba Guineas last start.
The Rothesay three-year-old won her maiden at Warwick Farm the start prior, prevailing in her final few strides before being given a good break between runs.
She was up sharply in trip last time out off a four-wide break and was also three-wide over the final 1000m.
Having tackled a heavy track and racing on less of a turnaround now, this girl appeals at a nice price.
Race 2 - 12:18PM Nova 106.9 BM78 Handicap (1820 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 6 Fleur De Monde
Fleur De Monde is a much better mare than her latest effort on the Gold Coast suggests.
The daughter of Dundeel was forced to shift to the inside upon jumping and then found herself a long way back under apprentice Samantha Collett on her way to finishing midfield.
Chris Waller’s five-year-old made it look easy winning her previous start over 2000m at Doomben quite comfortably, a solid form that race has seen Yet He Moves go on to win his next start.
An experienced wet-tracker with James Orman taking over now, we should see her bounce back to her best.
Race 3 - 12:53PM BRC Membership QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1000 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 1 Street Chase
Street Chase should have a stack of support ahead of his third start for Stuart Kendrick.
The Zoustar gelding returned a treat first-up at Doomben last month, given a positive ride up on the speed under Jimmy Orman, before shifting through the gears to win comfortably along the rail.
He’s a class animal with enormous upside and is more than capable of taking the next step now back over shorter.
Race 4 - 1:28PM Sky Racing BM80 Handicap (1000 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 5 Metalart
Hard to build a case against the unbeaten Metalart.
Kelly Schweida’s gelding is four-from-four to start his career, unleashing a powerful turn of foot down the centre of the straight to go clear at Doomben by 2.5 lengths earlier in May.
The son of Better Than Ready wasn’t asked to do much in a recent trial, but with all four of his wins coming on rain-affected tracks, this sets up beautifully for a repeat effort off the speed from a perfect gate.
Race 5 - 2:07PM LADBROKES RACING CLUB OPEN Handicap - WEIGHTS RAISED 1KG (1000 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 6 Wanda Rox
Wanda Rox should find this a much easier assignment after tackling the Weetwood at Toowoomba last start.
The mare by Wandjina was wide throughout and always tested over 1200m, making the step back to 1000m on Saturday a big positive.
A truly wet track like the one she faced a few weeks ago might test her, but after winning over the track and distance by 4.46 lengths the start prior, she’s still the rightful favourite against this small field.
Race 6 - 2:43PM DrinkWise Class 3 Handicap (1500 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 9 Castillian
Castillian is deep into his prep now and likely to appreciate the rise in trip.
Tony Gollan’s gelding cost himself a stride or two in the finish after overracing early at Doomben last month, but he’s been given a good three-week break between runs to get himself right.
We’ve seen the son of Per Incanto win over this journey in the past, while the booking of Orman back in the saddle is a plus from a nice low gate.
With some cut in the ground, look for him to settle off the speed early in the hopes of saving something for the finish.
Race 7 - 3:22PM The Gibson Class 4 Plate (1200 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 9 Midori Beauty
Midori Beauty looks a nice each-way bet in a wide-open betting race.
The Deep Field six-year-old has been around the mark twice since returning from Hong Kong, making up good ground last start on the Gold Coast for third after spotting the rest of the field a start.
He was checked early and shuffled back upon jumping, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Jake Bayliss settles right off the pace if he can find cover early.
Showing improvement and proven over the 1200m trip, a win wouldn’t surprise.
Race 8 - 4:02PM XXXX QUEENSLAND CUP (2400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 9 Artful Girl
Artful Girl has put together a handful of solid performances of late, winning back to back starts at Doomben and Toowoomba, before making up a stack of ground for second last start.
Kevin Kemp’s mare has tackled a Listed race only once during her career but is more than capable of handling the challenge with some good wet track form to her name.
Carrying 53kg is a huge advantage, and if she gets luck early from out wide, she’ll be one of the toughest to hold out based on recent form.
Race 9 - 4:37PM U&U Recruitment Class 6 Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 6 Warby
Warby can be a tricky horse to follow, but when he’s on like he was last month over the track and distance, he’s almost impossible to beat.
The son of Hellbent left himself a monumental task after spotting the rest of the field a healthy lead, shifting out four-wide into the turn and eventually letting rip with some late speed to win right on the line.
He’s been kept on ice with a four-week break between runs but has drawn to settle further forward this time from the middle gate.
If he handles the conditions and gets away on time, he’ll be finishing strongly over the top.
Race 10 - 5:13PM TATTERSALLS MEMBERS CUP (L) QTISx Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 1 Yellow Brick
Plenty of been made of James Orman’s ride on Yellow Brick in the Weetwood last start.
The Sears-trained five-year-old was caught wide throughout after being taken back off the field, tiring late on his way to finishing runner-up as the beaten favourite.
Andrew Mallyon takes over now carrying top weight, but given the class of this horse, he should have plenty to work with.
