2024 Golden Eagle Day Tips & Preview

2024 Golden Eagle Day Tips & Preview

We’re at the tail end of the Sydney Spring Carnival but there’s still plenty of high class racing left to come over the coming weeks.

The Golden Eagle will headline this Saturday’s Rosehill Gardens race meeting, with a full field set to assemble for the $10m feature.

Also included on the ten-race card is the Russell Balding Stakes and with $3m on offer, the 1300m feature has attracted a star-studded line including The Everest winner Bella Nipotina.

The rail will be in the true position and the track is currently rated a good 4.

Race 1: ( 12:10pm AEDT) TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP CLASS 3 1400M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Everido

J: Regan Bayliss (57.5kg) T: Keith Dryden

Everido has been racing well but hasn’t had the best of luck in recent runs.

Two runs back over the 1500m here, the son of Supido was held up for the majority of the straight after settling in the box seat.

Back to 1300m at Warwick Farm last start, he again had trouble securing clear running until the final part where he flashed late into third.

He’s fit, the 1400m looks ideal and with luck in running, he’s sure to be right there at the finish.

Race 2: (12:45pm AEDT) TAB HANDICAP BM78 F&M 1300M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win Market Mover

No. 3 Asgarda

J: Billy Owen (60.5kg) T: Doug Gorrel

Asgarda was doing her best work late last start in The Kosciuszko and should find this easier.

Taken back to the tail off the outside gate she was still last at the 300m when brought to the outside to make her run and she finished off strongly into fifth.

Winner of the Country Championships earlier this year, the five-year-old mare has put together a very handy record and she’s very honest.

She’s set to enjoy a soft run from the low draw and the extra 100m will certainly suit.

Race 3: (1:20pm AEDT) CERRONE HANDICAP BM78 1300M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 8 Green Belt

J: Chad Schofield (56.5kg) T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr

Green Belt comes off a determined win over 1800m on the Kensington and the lightly raced six year old looks to have plenty of upside.

He was just collared in the final strides as his previous start over 1900m, where he was second up off a long break and with the added fitness, he proved too strong last time.

A winner at his first two starts he then finished the runner up in the Listed Daybreak Lover at his third outing before spending a long stint on the side lines.

Things didn’t right for him in three runs last campaign but the Price / Kent team looks to have him back to his best this time around.

Chad Schofield stay in the saddle and the inside draw will see him afforded every chance.

Race 4: (2:00pm AEDT) KIA HANDICAP BM78 C,G&E 1300M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 5 Fire Star

J: Tommy Berry (58kg) T: Peter Snowden

Fire Star lines up here in red hot form having put together back to back wins in dominant fashion.

The Deep Field gelding has really come of age this campaign, improving with each run and his most recent victory over 1200m at Warwick Farm saw him pull right away from them over the concluding stages.

He stays at that same grade and the 2kg rise won’t worry him.

Tommy Berry goes aboard for Peter Snowden and if he can slot in and find cover off the tricky draw, I think he can make it three straight.

Race 5: (2:40pm AEDT) FOUR PILLARS MIDWAY BM68 1500M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 5 Harlow Mist

J: Nash Rawiller (60kg) T: J G Sargent

Harlow Mist resumed with an encouraging effort over the 1400m on the Kensington and will have taken plenty of benefit from the outing.

The John Sargent trained mare showed good ability early on, saluting in her first three starts and she was placed in the Group Two Wakeful before contesting the VRC Oaks, where she failed to see out the 2500m.

She competed at stakes level in three of four starts last campaign where she failed to fire but she looks to have come in good order and will find this much easier than what she’s previously contested.

The slight rise to 1500m looks ideal and she gets a senior rider back on, with Nash Rawiller to do the steering in The Four Pillars.

Race 6: (3:20pm AEDT) TOYOTA FORKLIFTS HANDICAP BM78 1100M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Tristate

J: Tom Sherry (60kg) T: Anthony Cummings

Tristate has been racing well and looks nearing a win.

Two starts back, over this course and distance, he endured a tough run up on speed and stuck on gamely to hold third behind subsequent Group Three winner Ostraka.

Last start, back in grade but again over this track and trip, he took up the running and looked the winner 200m out but was just collared in the final bounds by the very smart Pharari.

He’s fit, he does race well here and with luck from the draw, he’ll be right there fighting out the finish.

Race 7: (4:00pm AEDT) RUSSELL BALDING STAKES SW 1300M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Bella Nipotina

J: Craig Williams (56.5kg) T: Ciaron Maher

Bella Nipotina stamped herself as the best sprinter in the country with an almighty effort to take out the Everest two weeks ago.

Despite being posted three deep without cover throughout, she found enough to get the better of Giga Kick in the final strides.

Now a four time Group One winner, she continues to step up each time the bar is raised and I can’t go past her here.

Craig Williams will again partner her and barrier four should see her enjoy a kinder run in transit.

Race 8: (4:45pm AEDT) JAMES SQUIRE GOLDEN EAGLE 4YO SW 1500M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 16 Joliestar

J: Kerrin McEvoy (55.5kg) T: Chris Waller

Not a lot went right for Joliestar in the Everest but I think she can bounce back here.

Finding herself back at the tail approaching the home turn she worked home strongly between runners, doing her best work late to finish only 1.6 lengths off Bella Nipotina.

A high-class mare, the daughter of Zoustar brought up her first Group One win at her fifth race start when victorious in the Thousand Guineas and returned in the Autumn for just one run where she saluted in the Arrowfield Stakes.

Given plenty of time, she resumed in fine style to take out the Show County with ease and was solid through the line second up to finish third in the Sheraco Stakes.

Her last two runs suggest she’s looking for further and she’s sure to relish the rise to 1500m here.

Kerrin McEvoy guided to her to her maiden win and goes back onboard Chris Waller.

Race 9: (5:20pm AEDT) ROSEHILL GOLD CUP QUALITY GROUP 3 2000M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 1 Fawkner Park

J: Tyler Schiller (60kg) T: Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald

Fawkner Park proved disappointing when resuming in the Underwood Stakes but connections felt he just didn’t handle the Melbourne way of going.

He ran a much-improved race last weekend, charging home down the downside in the Craven Plate to finish just over a length off Lindermann.

A winner of eight from nineteen he’s worked through his grades with relative ease and after going down narrowly in the Doomben Cup he rounded out his Winter campaign with a commanding victory in the Group 2 Q22.

Unbeaten in three third up runs he looks ready to peak and will relish the rise to 2000m in the Rosehill Gold Cup.

Tyler Schiller has formed a great association with the gelding, he stays in the saddle and from the wide draw he’ll get back and be powering home late.

Race 10: (5:55pm AEDT) CITY TATTERSALLS CLUB HANDICAP BM78 1500M

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 7 Captain Furai

J: Kerrin McEvoy (58kg) T: Chris Waller

Captain Furai looks to have returned in good order having produced a solid first up effort over 1400m on the Kensington.

Looming up in the straight, he just looked to peak on his run late but will have taken good improvement from the outing.

The Toronado gelding made a strong impression in his first campaign, recording three wins and a second placing from just four raceday appearances and the form around him is solid.

The step out to 1500m will suit and he’s drawn to get the right run under Kerrin McEvoy, who goes onboard for Chris Waller.
