Don’t let the AFL media fool you, the A-League is alive and well and we’ve got another massive week of football coming up!
Auckland are currently the highest on the table they’ve ever been and Adelaide United get their season started this week.
Enough dilly-dallying, let’s jump straight into it.
Here is my preview of week 2 of the A-League!
Friday night footy sees us head to Campbelltown where the top of the table Bulls will host the 11th placed Newcastle Jets.
It was a big 6-1 win to Macarthur last week and they are deserved $1.85 favourites against the Jets, who are $3.60 underdogs in this one.
He scored a brace last week, will we see Marin Jakolis score again here?
He’s $2.63 to do so, that’s where my money is.
Four of Newcastle’s last five Week 2 away games have resulted in a draw but that seems like a bit of a reach from a betting insight.
Macarthur to win for me.
The Reds get their campaign started on Saturday afternoon and are $2.20 favourites over the reigning champions.
The Mariners are 4-1 against Adelaide in their last five games and I would hardly call it an upset if the $2.95 underdogs pick up three points here this week.
Given Adelaide are a game behind, I’m willing to back a Mariners upset here, surely they open their scoring account this week.
SURELY.
It’s our first Melbourne Derby of the 2024/25 season and I’m going to make one more joke about buckets while it’s still half relevant and funny (at least to me).
It’s always a firey clash when these two Melbourne teams meet and I’m not expecting anything less on Saturday.
Despite a 0-0 draw last week the Vics are $2.50 favourites to City’s $2.65.
You literally can’t split these two teams, their last five games boast a 1-3-1 record through 90 minutes and each of Melbourne Victory’s last five games have resulted in a draw at the end of normal time.
I’m with a draw here as well.
Speaking of derbies, we’ve also got ourselves a Distance Derby on Saturday night.
We’re in Perth and even though the travel does take it’s toll on teams, I’m more than happy for a play on Wellington here.
The ‘Nix shared points last week but a 1-6 loss for the Glory last week has me pretty comfortable to back them for their first win of the campaign here.
You know I love Wellington too.
Auckland have never ever lost an A-League game, will I be able to say that ever again?
The bookies don’t believe so.
Auckland are $2.95 underdogs against the Sky Blues this week and are coming in red hot after last weeks win.
Sky Blues for me, not upset if I’m wrong here though.
It all wraps up on Sunday night with a battle of the Wests.
West Melbourne v Western Sydney.
WSW are looking for a strong showing here after going down in the Sydney derby last week and should be up for it.
They’re the $2.35 favourites and is where I’m leaning in this one.
I haven’t quite seen enough from United yet to back them with confidence and WSW looked decent losers against the Sky Blues last week.
