Daily Racing Tips – Wyong Gold Cup Day Special

Wyong: Race 3 (2:05pm)

No. 4 Weeping Woman

I was in the corner of Weeping Woman last week at Canterbury when she was run down up on the speed and forced to settle for third.

The daughter of Lonhro saw her chance at a hat-trick fall short, but she should be better for that effort considering she was 1100m out to 1250m that day on a dry track.

Wet conditions under foot are more up her alley and she looks as though she’ll get a nice cheap lead with the only real speed coming from out wide.

No. 9 Cohesive

J: Tom Sherry (55kg) T: Edward Cummings

Cohesive looks one of the main contenders for Edward Cummings.

The lightly-raced mare has had some wide gates to contend with so far this prep, but I thought she showed real improvement last start at Canterbury when giving good chase back over slightly shorter to grab third.

This is her fifth run back from a spell, and she should find 1200m a little more to her liking with the gate likely affording her a nice cart into the race coming off the speed.

Wyong: Race 5 (3:20pm)

No. 8 Killer Kerr

J: Braith Nock (56.5kg) T: Peter Green

Killer Kerr looks as though she might be wanting further.

The mare by Shooting To Win was strong over the final stages to finish runner-up here over 1350m a couple of weeks ago, a game effort considering she was always wide in transit.

She’s run some nice races over the mile in the past and gets in quite well thanks to the 3kg claim. From a soft draw, she should land just off the speed and be given every chance.

Wyong: Race 7 (4:35pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 6 Etna Rosso

J: Kerrin McEvoy (54kg) T: Chris Waller

Etna Rosso brings the most likable form into the Cup.

Chris Waller’s five-year-old presents fitter and ready to peak, also racing with confidence after storming the line from a long way back to score over 1900m at Rosehill last start.

This is the toughest race he’s contested since he went around in a Group 3 back home in Ireland as a four-year-old, but he does look a talented stayer capable of improving even further on that dominant performance a couple of weeks ago.
