No. 3 Poifect

J: Michael Dee (58kg) T: Ben, Will & Jd Hayes

Poifect is having her first run back since the Winter Carnival, last seen finishing down the order off a wide run in The Roses.

The 1400m trip is short of her best, but she did run a nice race over this distance at Flemington last time in work.

Proven first-up and appearing in great order during a recent jumpout, there’s nothing to suggest she can’t return with a win.

Caulfield: Race 4 (1:50pm)

Win

No. 1 Silmarillion

J: Blake Shinn (57.5kg) T: James Cummings

Silmarillion is fourth-up for Godolphin, looking to build on her recent win at The Valley over 1200m.

The filly by Too Darn Hot did it tough throughout, tracking wide into the straight and behind held up briefly at one point on her way to a fairly comfortably looking win.

She’s untried over 1400m, but after being eased up towards the line that day, she should have a bit left in the tank with Blake Shinn taking over from Kerrin McEvoy.

Drawn the fence, look for the pair to settle in the back half early and really pile on the pressure into the turn.

Caulfield: Race 6 (3:00pm)

No. 11 Commemorative

J: Jamie Kah (54.5kg) T: James Cummings

Commemorative is having her second run back for Godolphin.

The mare by I Am Invincible was impressive in the Toy Show Quality on return at Randwick last month, laying down a real challenge to the winner Kimochi after copping some interference at the top of the straight.

She’s typically struggled at this stage of her prep but has always been a good 1100m horse with two wins to her name.

Does need luck to go her way from the awkward gate, but with a trial between starts and Jamie Kah jumping in the saddle for the first time, she has to be rated as one of the main contenders.

Caulfield: Race 8 (4:15pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 11 Place Du Carrousel

J: Mark Zahra (57kg) T: A & S Freedman

Place Du Carrousel rates a leading contender in the 2024 Underwood Stakes field.

The Freedman-trained Irish raider mixed her form during a brief autumn campaign, running on strongly behind Via Sistina on debut in the Ranvet, and then pulling up early down the straight in the Queen Elizabeth.

She’s trialled nicely in the leadup to her return and should find this a much easier contest.
