Newcastle: Race 1 (1:00pm)

No. 11 Blazing Sword
If Blazing Sword gets across early from out wide and settles midfield, he’ll be hard to beat.
This lightly-raced three-year-old is still searching for his first win, going close on back to back occasions at Goulburn and Hawkesbury recently to finish runner-up on each occasion.
He had a wide run to overcome last start over 1800m, bolting in late back on top of the ground with a bit left to give through the line.
Plenty fit and racing with the blinkers on for the first time now, a similar effort would see him go close.
Newcastle: Race 2 (1:35pm)

No. 2 Outishka
Outishka is the one to beat here with several wins to her name over these shorter sprint trips.
Scott Singleton’s mare was sensational last start at Moree, making every post a winner to go nearly four lengths clear in arrogant fashion.
With four runs under her belt and Mitch Stapleford back in the irons, the pair look likely to burst out of the gates early and look to dictate on their terms.
Newcastle: Race 5 (3:25pm)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 5 Terra Mater
Terra Mater ticks a few important boxes for trainer Jarrod Austin in the 2024 Tibbie Stakes.
The five-year-old mare by Wandjina was outstanding two weeks ago at Wyong, coming out and winning the Listed Mona Lisa over her final few strides with a bursting run from well back off the speed.
She’s seemingly gone to another level this time in work and is still open to improvement third-up over just a touch further.
Drawn an ideal gate and Nash Rawiller knowing her inside and out, the pair rate highly in another winnable race.
Newcastle: Race 6 (4:05pm)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 4 Touristic
The 2024 Newcastle Cup a nice setup for the Snowden-trained Touristic.
The son of Frankel has been frustrating to follow over the last couple of months, cashing a cheque but failing to win in three straight starts across Rosehill, Grafton, and Randwick.
In his defence, he was held up badly down the straight last start in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup and only clear late, so he is open to improvement from a much better gate.
Keep in mind, he was five weeks between runs that day, so on less of a turnaround and back out to 2400m, he should be piling on the pressure with a big run off the speed.
