The Group 3 Sandown Stakes is the headline act this Saturday in Victoria.
With eight races on offer, the card coincides with AFL Grand Final Day in what is hands down one of the biggest days of sports and racing.

Race 1 - 12:10PM Sportsbet Photo Finish Refund Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 3 Chewing Gum
Chewing Gum caught the eye of many when winning superbly on debut at Geelong two weeks ago.
The Lindsay Park-trained filly by Brazen Beau was kept under wraps along the rail, shifting away from the fence near the 150m mark and punching clear to win by 2.75 lengths.
She appeared to shift through the gears with ease once something was asked of her, and although this is tougher up to Saturday grade, she looked as though she could easily win over further.
Race 2 - 12:45PM Evergreen Turf Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 3 Detroit City
Good race with the top two in the market coming out of the same contest behind Dawn Service last start.
Detroit City staggered late to the line when beaten just over a length, but I thought he responded nicely over his final few strides after getting a little wayward.
Keep in mind, he was six weeks between runs and previously unbeaten in two starts, so there is scope for improvement after tackling 1400m off a freshen-up.
Fitter now and drawn to get back off the speed again, he looks capable of making amends in a similar race.
Race 3 - 1:20PM Sportsbet Feed Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 13 Our Sassy Lady
Our Sassy Lady resumes for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr.
We saw this daughter of Ocean Park only briefly during the autumn, winning well on debut here over the track and distance, before stepping up to tackle a BM70 at Warrnambool in May.
She quickened smartly and made up good ground for second last start, form that has held up with third place getter Persian Spirit winning at Geelong two weeks ago by a good margin.
Her late speed was on full display angling off heels in a recent trial, and she looks set to run another big race over her preferred trip.
Race 4 - 1:55PM Quayclean Handicap (1800 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 5 Electric Impulse
Electric Impulse looks ready to win again for trainer Henry Dwyer.
The mare by Cable Bay was outstanding off a four-week break last start at Sale, racing a little keen out of the gates but adopting a spot midfield and proving too strong down the outside.
She kept finding and looked as though she could have won over further, so off that, the rise to 1800m poses no issues.
Her previous form here at Sandown and at The Valley reads exceptionally well and it helps knowing she handles wet and dry tracks.
Race 5 - 2:30PM Sportsbet Race Replays Handicap (1000 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 8 Gallant Son
Gallant Son makes his return to the races for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman.
This guy was outstanding on debut at Sale back in June, putting paid to his rivals by exactly six lengths in what was a superb front-running display under Luke Nolen.
Linda Meech takes over now carrying 54kg, which could prove the difference in a race that sees a few others potentially wanting further.
After letting down beautifully to win a recent jumpout, this son of Written Tycoon looks ready to rock and roll.
Race 6 - 3:05PM Tile Importer Handicap (1800 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 2 Muramusa
Tricky race that doesn’t appear to hold a great deal of depth.
Muramusa has returned nicely for the Busuttin and Young team, trying his guts out late in the So You Think Stakes a couple of weeks ago at The Valley where he just lacked the dash to go with Pericles.
Second-up over 1800m are two big ticks in the right box, and if he gets over early from the wide gate and settles towards the tail, he should be finishing strongly over the top of some of these.
Race 7 - 3:45PM Sportsbet Sandown Stakes (1500 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 11 Craig
Craig has eyes on races like the Golden Eagle later in the Spring, so this is potentially must-win territory if he’s to take on some of Sydney’s best.
He left us no reason to doubt him when coming out and winning over 1400m at Caulfield fresh, reeling in the leaders at the top of the straight and punching clear to win by 2.25 lengths.
This is tougher again for the lightly-raced four-year-old, but if he gets back off the field and is able to wind up with his usual run down the centre of the straight, good luck beating him.
Race 8 - 4:25PM ive > Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 18 Modown
Modown just needs luck to go his way as the second emergency in this field.
We’ve seen this gelding by Toronado come out and run some nice races over 1400m, winning twice and placing in the Bendigo Guineas earlier in the year.
He’s unbeaten second-up and put forth a nice return fresh at Sale when rattling home late for third.
If he gets in, he’ll carry only 54kg with Beau Mertens operating in the saddle for the first time.
