Following a good gap between meetings, we’re finally back to Eagle Farm on Saturday with nine races set to be run and won.
A Soft track is expected despite fine weather forecast, while the rail is in the true position throughout.
For our thoughts on the entire program, scroll down below.
Race 1 - 11:58AM BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 3 Without Delay
Without Delay is a promising three-year-old making his second start for Annabel and Robert Neasham.
We saw this boy come out and win well on debut at Ipswich a few weeks ago, storming the line late down the outside to arrive just in the nick of time.
This is tougher up to Saturday grade, but the son of Churchill should have plenty left in the tank as he gets out over further.
He appeared a little green on debut, but with race fitness now and some experience on his side, he should go well.
Race 2 - 12:33PM EAGLE FARM RACING MUSEUM Fillies & Mares No Metro Wins Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 5 Pipistrelle
Pipistrelle has dominated the country scene since returning to work, winning back to back starts at Mackay and Cairns.
The mare formerly in the care of Godolphin has really come on since joining Ricky Vale’s stable, showcasing a dominant turn of foot last start over 100m further to get up down the outside of her final few strides.
This is tougher up in class, but she’ll appreciate some extra sting out of the track from a nice inside gate on this occasion.
Race 3 - 1:08PM SPRING CARNIVAL BOOK NOW BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 3 John Rambo
John Rambo can be a tricky horse to follow at times, but his best is certainly good enough to win a race like this.
Tony Gollan’s lightly-raced five-year-old gave away a big start fresh at Doomben last month, before making up a stack of ground down the straight to rattle home late for third.
He’s missed the money only once from three starts here on his home track and is drawn to get a perfect run off the speed from the inside alley.
Providing he jumps on time, he’ll be strong when it counts with a solid second-up record to support his claims.
Race 4 - 1:43PM LUKE LOVES MARIA Class 3 Plate (1800 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 3 Kokonotsu
The gate makes things tricky, but this does look a winnable race for Kokonotsu if he can shuffle across early.
Tony Gollan’s five-year-old son of Maurice has left a bit to be desired in both runs back, finishing well outside the money on the Sunshine Coast and Doomben over shorter.
That said, he was always looking for further, and we have seen him run some huge races over 1800m, notably winning over a similar trip here at Eagle Farm as a four-year-old.
In well with the claim with a few key changes to his gear, I think we’ll see some improvement with fitness on his side.
Race 5 - 2:23PM SKY RACING BENCHMARK 78 Handicap (1000 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 1 Liquor
Battlefield is an exceptional four-year-old that appears to be going places for Barry Lockwood, but I’m happy to back against him here given his fresh record.
Instead, I’m siding with the in-form Liquor, who is absolutely airborne right now riding back to back wins at Doomben and the Sunny Coast leading in.
The son of Spirit Of Boom has been given a nice break of just over a month between runs after prevailing over his final few strides last month over the same distance.
He’ll likely find a firmer track to his liking and there’s no knock on his record here on his home track.
Race 6 - 2:58PM EVA AIR Class 6 Plate (1200 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 2 Cloudland
Cloudland has a job in front of him from the awkward gate, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes out and gives the rest of these a bit of a lesson given his late speed.
The son of Swiss Ace has made the journey up from Sydney looking to improve on a first-up effort for second at Randwick over the same trip last month.
Kris Lees’ six-year-old gave a nice sight over the concluding stages that day, just lacking the dash and fitness to go with Willaidow in a race that has produced some likeable form.
Fitter now and potentially having a bit on his rivals in terms of class, he should be one of the toughest to beat.
Race 7 - 3:33PM XXXX QUALITY Handicap (1600 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 7 Awash
Awash could be a major threat here with some luck from wider out.
The five-year-old son of Merchant Navy is no stranger to winning over the mile, and he did go close a few weeks ago at Randwick where he loomed the winner at the top of the straight before fading late.
I’m not entirely confident he was in the right spot on the track that day, while it’s worth keeping in mind he was competing off a four-week break.
With some upside to come on less of a turnaround this time, he might prove hard to run down up on the speed.
Race 8 - 4:12PM LADBROKES BLACKBOOK QUALITY Handicap (1000 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 4 Hidden Wealth
Hidden Wealth almost picks himself here.
This promising five-year-old was one of the stars of the Winter earlier in the year, stringing together a pair of impressive wins to wrap up his prep, the latter coming ahead of My Snow Queen, who has been equally impressive of late.
The inside gate and his recent trial win are two big ticks in the right box, while it’s hard to forget his impressive first-up win on debut at Ipswich a couple of years ago.
Race 9 - 4:48PM GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB Colts, Geldings & Entires No Metro Wins Handicap (1400 METRES)
Race Starts in: Race Finished
No. 2 Warby
It’s going on close to D-Day for the Gollan-trained Warby.
This five-year-old son of Hellbent has been rough to follow over the last few months, but if you’re going off his recent form, a win could be imminent following three consecutive placings.
Keep in mind he was competing off a six-week break at Doomben last month, so there is scope for natural improvement off less of a break.
Drawing wide in a very open race is tough, but if he gets back in the run and saves his best for the finish, he’ll be as good a chance as any.
