No. 2 Into You

J: Alana Kelly (60kg) T: Shay Keating

Into You has been given a gap of five weeks between runs ahead of this second-up assignment.

This is a big step back in class to country level for the mare by No Nay Never, last seen racing at Caulfield where she finished down the order behind the winner Lovazou.

That form has stacked up nicely since and she’s drawn to receive all the favours from the inside gate in her first look at the synthetic.

Ballarat: Race 6 (4:00pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

No. 7 Timeonlees

J: Declan Bates (58kg) T: T & C McEvoy

Declan Bates has retained the ride on Timeonlees after breaking through to shed the maiden tag together late last month.

The McEvoy-trained mare by Turn Me Loose bolted in to score over her final few strides, an effort she can only improve on considering she was four weeks between runs that day.

Having found the money in all but one of her seven career starts, there’s a lot to like about her prospects carrying only 0.5kg extra.

Ballarat: Race 7 (4:30pm)

No. 4 Derelict

J: Jarrod Fry (60.5kg) T: Kane Harris

Derelict races on a quick seven-day turnaround after being run down in his final few strides over the track and distance last week.

The son of Outreach looked the winner at the 200m mark before laying in over the concluding stages, holding on late for second beaten just under half a length.

He’s still open to improvement with just three runs under his belt this time in work, and with the blinkers coming off now and the low gate in his favour, this looks a clear target race.

Ballarat: Race 8 (5:00pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 8 Excellent Lover

J: Blaike McDougall (59.5kg) T: Ben, Will & Jd Hayes

Excellent Lover is a filly with serious upside for Team Hayes and company.

Her debut win here a couple of weeks ago really caught the eye, the daughter of Exceed and Excel stalking the pace early on before tracking home nicely off a three-wide position to go 1.5 lengths clear.

She’s clearly got some late speed under the hood, and this doesn’t look that much tougher with Blaike McDougall operating from an ideal gate.
