No. 10 Perfume River

J: Nadia Daniels (57.5kg) T: Pat Carey & Harris Walker

The form around Perfume River reads quite nicely for this.

Only lightly-raced for a four-year-old, this mare trained by Pat Carey and Harris Walker was last seen running on late to finish midfield in a much more difficult race over the same distance at Caulfield in wet conditions.

Her form prior saw her land just over a length off Boom Bang at Sandown, and she does get into this race nice and light with the claim.

Needs luck from the gate, but back on a firmer track and plenty fit, she should run well.

No. 9 Under The Palais

J: Jordyn Weatherley (59kg) T: Symon Wilde

Under The Palais is open to improvement back on a dryer track and on less of a turnaround.

Simon Wilde’s mare resumed from a four-week let-up at Warrnambool last month to hold on for a narrow win on a Heavy 8, a huge effort after finding the front out of the turn and letting rip with a strong turn of foot.

She really hasn’t put a foot wrong during this current prep and was also placed here back in April in a similar race.

Ballarat: Race 8 (4:30pm)

No. 4 Dakarai

J: Ben Allen (60.5kg) T: Wendy Kelly

Dakarai should be given every chance from the soft gate under Ben Allen.

The pair combined to just miss out on a place at Cranbourne a few weeks ago, overcoming a four-wide sit in transit where they were only run down in their final few strides.

This talented five-year-old was competing off a four-week break that day, so he does have room for natural improvement with conditions to suit.

Back to 1200m in a similar race, he’s likely to start at short odds.

No. 8 Capabelle

J: Koby Jennings (59kg) T: Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald

Capabelle is an intriguing runner going around at odds.

Annabel Neasham’s mare won her maiden quite nicely first-up at Goulburn last time in work, wrapping up her prep finishing down the order in a trickier race at The Valley over 1200m.

She’s better suited here back over a shorter spring trip, and I think there was a bit to like about her recent barrier trial on the synthetic at Pakenham.

Providing she handles some cut in the ground, she should measure up.
