Daily Racing Tips – Grand National Hurdle Day Special

Sandown: Race 2 (12:55pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 2 Valois

J: Ethan Brown (61.5kg) T: Cliff Brown

Valois maps to get the dream run from barrier five in his third start back from a spell.

Cliff Brown’s four-year-old was runner-up when resuming at Mornington earlier in June behind the smart Bossy Nic, and then followed that effort up solidly to finish midfield in a tougher race at Caulfield over further.

He’s been given a month between runs and typically fires fresh, while this slight step back in class also helps.

Sandown: Race 4 (2:15pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 5 Freddy The Eagle

J: Chris Mc Carthy (64.5kg) T: Symon Wilde

Freddy The Eagle ended Affluential’s winning streak two back at Warrnambool when fighting hard to prevail in his final few strides.

Simon Wilde’s old boy proved that was no fluke backing that up with a soft win at Casterton, an effort that suggested he might be wanting further now as he gets out over 4200m for the first time.

He’ll be well-suited on another rain-affected track and is there nothing to suggest he can’t make it a hat-trick now.

Sandown: Race 6 (3:35pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win Market Mover

No. 3 Sandpaper

J: Jamie Kah (60kg) T: James Cummings

Hard to fault Sandpaper’s most recent start when runner-up to the in-form El Rocko over this trip at Caulfield.

The Godolphin five-year-old hasn’t won for a while, but he should still have improvement to come considering that was just his third run back from a lengthy spell.

He gets into this contest carrying 60kg under Jamie Kah and has handled wet tracks well in the past.

Competing with he blinkers back on, he’ll likely settle in the back half early and wind up with a big run.

Sandown: Race 7 (4:15pm)

Race Starts in: Race Finished

Win

No. 3 Larsen Bay

J: Tatum Bull (57.5kg) T: Clayton Douglas

Larsen Bay was seen doing her best work late over her final few strides to win by a quarter of a length here on the Lakeside track three weeks ago.

Clayton Douglas’ mare was faced with another heavy track that day, suitable conditions for this mare by Tosen Stardom that she’d likely appreciate again on Sunday.

She’s got the wide gate to contend with this time but does get in well with the claim under Tatum Bull. Looks to still have some petrol in the tank and she should take catching providing she doesn’t spend too much energy finding the front.
